Chapter 683:

“They’d be more than happy to look into this.”

With that, he pulled out his phone and started dialing.

At first, Ashton thought he’d scare the three troublemakers into confessing by threatening to call the police. Surely, they’d break under the pressure of impending law enforcement, right?

But as he began to dial the number, he caught an unexpected sight—the trio wasn’t trembling with fear. Instead, they wore smug grins, as if they’d already won some unseen game. Their eyes sparkled with a dangerous glimmer, almost like they’d been waiting for him to make this very move.

A chill slithered down Ashton’s spine. Why were they so calm? He hesitated, then something dawned on him. He decided to call a different contact, explaining the situation and insisting they come quickly.

Even as events unfolded, the three “injured” individuals stayed unfazed, almost as if they were counting the seconds until the police arrived. Their confidence was rooted deep, and the person behind the scenes had assured them there was no reason to fear the authorities. In a cruel twist of irony, Ashton had unwittingly called their allies.

Soon after Ashton ended the call, two police officers arrived, briskly stepping onto the scene.

Their presence invigorated the troublemakers, who raised their voices in exaggerated distress.

“Oh, thank goodness you’re here!” one wailed. “This heartless company has ruined us!”

“Exactly!” another chimed in, clutching his arm. “We bought defective products from them, and instead of helping us, they called in a quack who twisted my arm until it was nearly broken!”

“Same here!” the third wailed, gesturing to his knee. “He twisted it out of nowhere, and now my leg’s numb. I might be crippled for life!”

The two officers exchanged a grim look, then turned their skeptical gaze on Ashton and Abrial.

“We suspect you of causing bodily harm,” one officer said, his voice cold as steel. “We advise you to cooperate, or we’ll take appropriate measures to ensure compliance.”

Abrial, caught between shock and indignation, stammered, “But officers, could there be a misunderstanding here? These people came here to stir up trouble. That’s why we called you for help!”

The second officer, however, glared back. “All we see are three innocent victims and two suspects who seem eager to dodge responsibility!”

Abrial opened her mouth to argue, but Ashton shook his head, his hand gently steadying her.

Then, narrowing his eyes, Ashton gave the officers a long, scrutinizing look. “Which precinct are you with, exactly?”

The officers bristled at his question. “What do you mean? Are you implying we’re impostors?” one snapped. “Fine! Come with us to the station, and we’ll prove our credentials!”
