Chapter 686:

Adjacent to him, Ashton subtly manipulated a recording pen, his lips curled into a knowing grin. He was about to use the device to exert psychological pressure, aiming to coax any inadvertent admissions from the covert disruptors within their midst.

Before he could even utter a word, a surprising turn occurred within the gathered Carter family. Two figures rose abruptly from their seats, their confession echoing through the tense silence.

“Yes, it was us!”

The declaration stunned everyone present.

The speakers were none other than Craig’s parents, Braden Carter and Sarai Carter, who were still grappling with the loss of their son.

Levi stared at the couple, his expression a mix of shock and confusion, words failing him momentarily. Although he had harbored suspicions about other relatives, the thought of Braden and Sarai being involved had never crossed his mind.

“Braden, Sarai, how could it be you?” he exclaimed, his voice tinged with incredulity. “Do you realize the potential damage to our family if this isn’t handled properly? Why would you do such a thing?”

Braden flashed a chilling grin and remarked, “Why? Because Abrial and Ashton played a part in our son’s tragic end. Our only wish was to see them ousted from the Carter family—not to demand their lives, a restraint we maintained out of deference to you. Moreover, when weighed against the loss of our son, how much does this matter truly mean?”

Levi, too, had been profoundly affected by Craig’s untimely departure, as he was his eldest grandson. He had not foreseen that Craig’s death would ignite such a rift within his family.

Initially poised to chastise Braden and Sarai, Levi found his resolve softening as he sighed deeply, “Braden, Sarai, I know your hearts are heavy with loss, and my heart aches as well. But the police have clearly stated that Craig fell victim to the Dark Night Organization, with neither Abrial nor Ashton having a hand in it. Ashton was unjustly detained at the time. I know we are all in pain, but it’s unjust to lash out at those who are blameless.”

Yet, Levi’s attempt to bridge understanding was met with indifference.

Braden dismissed it with a scoff. “Their innocence or guilt is irrelevant in the face of our son’s absence! We are only revealing our true intentions now, to lay everything on the table. Fail here, and we will continue our efforts to rid the family of Abrial by any means necessary!”

As Levi watched sorrow twist into malice, his anger surged, culminating in a shout. The stress proved too much. Blood escaped his lips, and he crumpled to the floor, unconscious.

When Levi suddenly collapsed, unconscious, the gathered Carter family members stood in shock, momentarily paralyzed.

Abrial, positioned at the center of the chaos, was the first to react.

She shouted urgently, “Why are you all just standing there? Uncle, call the family doctor now! Aunt, don’t hesitate—call an ambulance, just in case!”

Her calm but decisive commands snapped everyone out of their daze, and they hurried to get medical help.
