Ashton was about to reply when Jeremiah returned to the stage.
Jeremiah’s voice boomed across the room. “I trust all the advancing contestants are ready! The second round of the competition is about to begin.”
He paused dramatically before continuing, “For this round, each of you must prepare a single dish. But there’s a catch—it has to reflect the theme we provide, showcasing your creativity and ingenuity as chefs! The theme for this round is Battle!”
“Battle?”
The announcement of the semi-final theme sent a ripple of excitement through the remaining twenty teams.
Everyone was eager to decipher how best to incorporate it into their dishes, a task that demanded equal parts creativity and skill.
But the organizers wasted no time. Barely had the rules and theme been revealed when the second round of the competition began.
Ashton found himself in the first group of competitors, squaring off against three opponents. Among them was one of the teams under Stephen’s leadership, adding an extra layer of pressure to the match.
Malcom, standing close to Ashton, kept his voice low as he observed the opposing team. “You’d better stay sharp. Those three may not have the accolades of Michelin chefs like Morris or the star power of the three Figueroas, but they’ve built their reputation as some of Staville’s finest. Their expertise is undeniable.”
Ashton glanced briefly at the team across from him. He noted the fluidity of their movements and the focus etched on their faces. “I can see that. They’re experienced and know exactly what they’re doing. Look at how quickly they’ve started; they’ve clearly planned this out.”
Malcom pressed further, his curiosity evident. “What are the odds you’ll beat them?”

They’ll produce something good, maybe even impressive, but it won’t be exceptional,” he explained confidently.
Although the two spoke in hushed tones, their opponents overheard every word. The layout of the kitchen stations left little room for privacy.
Hearing Ashton’s self-assured prediction sparked indignation among the trio from Green Hotel. A newcomer, who had barely scraped by in the first round, now dared to claim near-certain victory against them? Still, they chose not to retaliate with words. The three Figueroas’ earlier loss had taught them the dangers of underestimating an opponent.
