Chapter 778
Chapter 778:
Though Gustave’s suggestion didn’t quite reassure Abrial, Ashton’s condition was critical, and time was running out. Instead of doubting Gustave’s method, she decided it was better to act quickly and try it.
With resolve settling in her chest, Abrial took a deep breath and drew a small knife from her boot—one she kept for self-defense. She carefully pricked her finger, then held it to Ashton’s lips, letting a few drops of her blood fall into his mouth.
But no miracle happened.
Ashton remained unconscious, his breathing shallow and faint, showing no sign of stirring.
Seeing the lack of effect, Abrial felt a twinge of disappointment and turned toward Gustave. “Mr. Welch, it seems your method isn’t working. Maybe you should consult other members of the Baldwin family—they might have a solution.”
However, Gustave was staring at her with a strange expression, muttering under his breath, “That’s odd. I can clearly sense Ashton’s scent on you, yet you’re still a virgin. So, you two are often together, but haven’t… shared a bed yet, have you?”
Abrial’s face immediately flushed with embarrassment. Though she didn’t respond, her expression gave away everything.
Aside from her usual tomboyish attitude, Abrial had previously been involved with a few girls before meeting Ashton, identifying as a lesbian at the time.
However, she was quite innocent, and her first kiss had been given to Ashton.
Gustave’s question left her blushing deeply, too embarrassed to respond.
As he watched her reaction, Gustave quickly pieced it together. Seeing the discomfort in Abrial’s expression, Gustave realized his words might have been misinterpreted. With an awkward smile, he quickly clarified, “Miss, I think you’ve misunderstood me. What I meant by ‘Virgin Blood’ doesn’t refer to what you might have thought. It actually refers to the virgin’s body. Only the blood from an extremely pure female can calm the violent rage of the Glorious Heritage.”
Hearing Gustave’s explanation, Abrial couldn’t help but react, saying, “What kind of method is that? Are you just making things up?”

Gustave shook his head, a look of regret and melancholy crossing his face. “If I had a choice, I wouldn’t want to know about this method either. The reason I do is because of the mistake Ashton made back then.”
Despite the urgency of the situation, Abrial couldn’t hide her curiosity when Gustave was about to reveal something from Ashton’s past. She fell silent, her gaze fixed on him, waiting for him to speak.
Noticing the look of interest in her eyes, Gustave realized that Ashton had never shared his history with her. A wry smile tugged at the corners of his mouth.
With a deep sigh, Gustave began to recount the story.
“Ashton’s grandfather, Ennis, was gravely injured on the battlefield when he was young. As he grew older, his health declined rapidly, and no ordinary doctor could help him. Ashton, who has always placed great importance on family, eventually tracked me down and begged to become my apprentice, hoping I could heal his grandfather. He showed up at my doorstep and kneeled there for three days and nights, refusing to leave. At the time, Ashton was only sixteen—an age when most boys were rebellious and restless. But there he was, unwavering in his determination to save his grandfather. His persistence moved me. After testing his resolve, I agreed to take him on as my apprentice. But I already had another apprentice at the time—my granddaughter, Kaylee Welch. Unfortunately, Ashton and Kaylee didn’t get along.”
