Leonardo and Hamlin froze, their faces draining of color as if the floor beneath them had crumbled. Hamlin stumbled slightly, gripping the edge of a nearby chair to steady himself, his breath shaky with despair.

Ashton, watching their reaction, decided not to prolong their misery. “That said, they also mentioned a loophole, a way you can avoid paying the price,” he added, his voice breaking the silence like a lifeline.

Both men’s heads shot up, a flicker of hope igniting in their eyes. Ashton continued, “You’ll need to live in limbo, caught between reality and dreams. As long as this dream you’ve manifested into reality doesn’t end, the price won’t come due.”

When they heard Ashton’s explanation, a glimmer of hope reignited in the eyes of Leonardo and Hamlin.

However, they didn’t quite grasp the meaning of Ashton’s words. “Mr. Baldwin, what exactly do you mean by being in limbo between reality and dreams?” Leonardo asked, his voice tinged with hesitation.

“It’s quite straightforward, isn’t it? You just need to relinquish ownership of your assets while still maintaining control over them,” Ashton explained.

His explanation only deepened their confusion. Leonardo and Hamlin exchanged puzzled glances, clearly struggling to grasp the concept.

Before Ashton could elaborate, Gustave stepped forward, his sharp mind piecing it together immediately. “What Ashton means is that you should transfer ownership of your assets to him. He can then entrust those assets back to you for management. That way, you’ll exist in a sort of in-between state; both having and not having them. Once the power of the Glorious Heritage fades, the rules will try to enforce the price by making your assets disappear. But if ownership has already shifted to Ashton, yet you still control them through his trust, the rules won’t be able to enforce the payment. It creates a loophole.”

Ashton nodded in agreement. “Exactly. Alternatively, you could transfer the assets to my mentor instead. As long as the money no longer legally belongs to you but remains under your management, you can continue to live.”

Gustave quickly shook his head, raising his hands in protest. “Not to me, I’d rather stick to my quiet days of farming in the countryside,” he said with a chuckle.

Leonardo and Hamlin exchanged one last look, their faces lighting up with relief as the weight of despair lifted. Without hesitation, they nodded in agreement.

For Leonardo and Hamlin, this was without a doubt the best outcome. Not only would they survive, but they’d also continue to run their businesses.

Ashton becoming their boss was of no concern to them. In fact, having him as a powerful backer only worked in their favor, benefits without any drawbacks.

“Let’s go with your plan, Mr. Baldwin. From now on, we’re your employees!” Leonardo said, his voice filled with relief and resolve.
