Chapter 96
Chapter 96:
“What is Fraser planning?” Ashton muttered under his breath, raising an eyebrow.
Fraser’s demeanor was cheerful, yet his constant checking of his phone stirred Ashton’s suspicions. It appeared Fraser was anticipating something, possibly at Ashton’s expense.
Ashton’s gaze sharpened slightly, though he had to admit, Fraser’s performance was convincing without any solid proof of wrongdoing.
Ashton mused that perhaps he was reading too much into it.
The conversation continued until Fraser received a call. After concluding the call, he announced, “I apologize, everyone. I must attend to some other matters. I’ll return on another occasion.”
He swiftly excused himself and left.
Once Fraser departed, Ashton chose not to overstay, knowing the Campbell sisters hadn’t seen their father in a long time.
He bid farewell to Bruce and the Campbell sisters, then set off alone.
Bruce had thoroughly enjoyed his time with Ashton and wanted to share his personal collection with him. However, he prioritized his younger daughter’s health over hosting Ashton.
From a distance, Bruce called out, “Ashton, you’re welcome anytime. I would be delighted for you to see my collection.”
Ashton acknowledged with a smile and a nod before driving away.
Ashton headed through the affluent South Hills neighborhood, perched on a mountain within Inewood. Descending the mountain road, he noticed its deserted state.
The wealthy residents had no need to walk, and those who did walk could not afford the lofty perch of South Hills.

As Ashton drove away, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss.
He noticed two vans trailing him, neither of which had descended the mountain with him.
They kept a constant distance, prompting Ashton to slow down, hoping they would overtake him.
However, the vans remained steadfastly behind him, intensifying his suspicions.
Convinced they weren’t trying to pass, Ashton decided to confirm his suspicions.
He pressed the accelerator hard, causing his car to leap forward.
As expected, the vans revealed their true purpose. The occupants, armed and ready for confrontation, pursued him aggressively once he attempted to increase the distance between them.
Originally, the gang’s strategy had involved cornering Ashton with the vans at a strategic spot to force him to stop. But as they tried to adapt to Ashton’s unexpected speed, their plan faltered.
The drivers, now under pressure, began to show signs of strain.
Despite Ashton’s sports coupe being built for performance, the gang’s vans were also enhanced for high-speed chases, making them formidable adversaries. Nevertheless, the coordination between the two drivers proved inadequate. They struggled to keep pace with Ashton, much less bring him to a halt.
