Chapter 23
Chapter 23:
I waited until she was alone in the room that evening. I walked in without knocking.
“Hey, dear,” I said, fully aware that she was now at my mercy. She had no other choice but to dance to my tune. She was my prey, and I was the predator.
“Have you no manners? Have you lost your mind? Why would you come into my room without notice? And you didn’t even knock! Who does that?” I watched her say everything she needed to say. I hadn’t realized how beautiful and alluring she was until that moment.
“Sheelah, I hope you know you owe me something?” I asked, licking my lips as I let my eyes roam over her.
“Are you crazy? And why on earth are you looking at me like that? Have you forgotten where you left your senses?” she said, meeting my gaze directly.
“Well, I probably shouldn’t be telling you this, but I think you’re smart enough to understand. And just so you know, I know exactly what’s right, so don’t try to tell me when to knock or when to enter.”
This time, she looked at me with disgust, as though she already had an idea of what I was referring to. She moved in a way that clearly showed she wasn’t comfortable, but I simply enjoyed the moment, freely admiring the gifts nature had bestowed upon her.
“And what’s that supposed to mean? Didn’t you get paid? Vivienne and I paid you in full, and I don’t think that gives you the right to barge into my room unnoticed.”
If there was one thing I admired about Sheelah, it was her ability to remain bold even in the face of danger. I watched in awe as she carried herself, showing no sign of remorse for her past actions. It was a big surprise for me, how someone could be so cruel and yet act as if nothing had happened.
“You should know that it’s all in the past. The old issues are over. Now that she’s been found alive, it’s a problem. She saw only my face, and soon enough, my Alpha will hear about it. It’s serious because I can’t go down alone. I hope you understand that,” I said carefully.
My words seemed to make her think deeply. It became very clear to her now. She bit her lower lip, and honestly, it turned me on even more.

To avoid suspicion, I had to leave immediately.
Sheelah’s POV
That fateful evening, I was too preoccupied to notice that Adrian had returned much earlier than expected. He came back in less than twenty minutes, out of the fifty we had planned. I had always known Adrian to be committed to any assignment he was given, so his early return felt deliberate.
While a part of me was trying to convince myself that Amira had really died, another part of me refused to believe it.
All along, we had assumed Christian would eventually find out everything and most likely have us killed, which seemed to be the option he would choose without opposition.
All I prayed for was that the interception hadn’t come from Christian himself. This thought overwhelmed me so much that I had to summon all my courage to keep a straight face and avoid drawing any suspicion, especially from Chris. He’s the most logical person I’ve ever known.
Chris and I had been betrothed since our teenage years. He showered me with all the love I ever wanted and wished for. My father, Lawler Gotham, was a longtime family friend of the Stones.
Chris and I met at an interschool science exhibition. We bonded well from the beginning until Amira came into the picture. Since her arrival, it felt as though Chris had shut me out. I was no longer appealing to him. He began to see me as second best, and that hurt me deeply.
