Chapter 1004
Upon hearing Matthew's words, Rachel gaped at him with her eyes wide open.
Imagine someone who'd spent their whole life on an island surrounded by sea waking up in the desert one day surrounded by nothing but endless sand. She was just as shocked as someone would be in that situation.
After a while, Rachel snapped out of it and asked with suspicion, "Are you being a little dramatic? A hospital is a place to heal people. With what you're saying, it
doesn't sound like a hospital anymore."
Was it exaggerating? Matthew shook his head. "This is a problem every hospital has. You haven't seen the truly ridiculous stuff yet."
"A-are you saying it can get much worse than that?" Rachel responded.
She lived a worry-free life growing up, so she didn't have many chances to be around hospitals. Even when Fred was sick, she only needed to keep him company.
Her father and siblings took care of the billing and talked to the doctor to discuss the treatment.
The ideas of pointless treatment, unnecessary tests, and ineffective drugs had already thrown her for a loop. She couldn't fathom how things could get more absurd than that.
Matthew could understand where Rachel was coming from. He didn't believe it either in the past.
Since he was young, his favorite professions had always been police officer,
teacher, and doctor. Out of the three, he liked being the doctor the most, so he went to college to study medicine.
He used to view doctors as life-saving angels in white, but now, he saw things differently.
Seeing the disbelief on Rachel's face, Matthew decided to tell more about the story. "You don't think it's true, right? Just a few days ago, I was on the search for the Harmona Sect's medical literature-Five Integrations of Traditional and Modern Medicine.
"I was looking for Pierre's, the Harmona Sect's successor's, nephew. During the school checkup, the doctor said there was something with his body and took him to the operating room.
"Later, they announced the news he was dead and wouldn't let the family see the body. Do you know why?"
Frowning, Rachel was lost in thought. She knew something was wrong but couldn't figure out why exactly. "Could it be they used the wrong medicine and he died?"
Just thinking about it made Matthew's anger flare up. "You're being way too naive. Listen closely. They had all the students do health checkups just to find the right organs.
"Eventually, they found out that the organs of Pierre's nephew matched what they needed. They went ahead and collected them where was still alive. These people actually took away the organs of a living person."
Rachel's expression turned pale, and she looked horrified. "If this is true, I wouldn't
even want to go to the hospital when I get sick."
Matthew declared with resolve, "That's why I want to establish a new medical
practice. I'll be scouting for places to run it tomorrow."
Rachel fixed her gaze on Matthew. "Y-you're making me feel like I don't even know you anymore."
Matthew chuckled. "We're so close. How could we be strangers to each other?"
Rachel nodded. "When I first found
out about you, all I could think about
was to get you to save Grandpa. When I first saw you at Stardust Hotel, thought you were just a pervert.
"Since then, I always saw you as a creep. The more I spent time with you, the less I knew about you. You were so capable, and it felt like nothing could stop you.
"You keep blowing my mind. I thought I had you figured out, but now you're starting to feel like a stranger again."
Matthew smirked and asked, "How about we get a little more personal, so we can understand each other better?" As he spoke, Matthew reached his hand to Rachel.
Blushing, Rachel took a step back. Matthew was such a pervert! Just moments ago, he was talking about a new healthcare approach, carrying himself in such a He was noble aff all serious for a second, then turned back into a pervert.
Matthew gently took Rachel's hand. "Don't run away. Let's get to know each other better. As we learn more about each other, we'll never feel like strangers again."
Rachel was taken aback for a second, and her face turned beet red. "Y-You're so annoying! Don't touch me. I'm exhausted. Please give me a break."
Matthew pulled Rachel into his arms. "I know you're tired, so just lie down and rest. I'll handle everything."
