Chapter 1007

The following night, Stanley rested on a deck chair, holding a handheld fan. The wind from the fan brushed against Lorraine's face. The latter shut her eyes and enjoyed the moment.

Upon seeing this, Matthew chuckled. "Just use the fan for yourself, Dad. You don't have to pamper Lori so much."

Stanley raised an eyebrow. "What do you know? Girls are delicate, and they can't handle the heat."

Lillian chimed in. "Seriously, are you even Lori's dad? How can you not care about her?"

Matthew was at a loss for words. He should have kept quiet. Every remark he made would only provoke Stanley and Lillian to come at him.

He wanted to suggest going back inside and turning on the air conditioner. The words bounced around in his head, but he never said them.

If he did, Stanley and Lillian would complain that the air conditioner's cold air was bad for Lorraine, making her fall sick.

Matthew decided to stay quiet, sitting there and watching his parents spoil Lorraine. The peace of it made him feel calm and happy.

Suddenly, his phone started ringing. Matthew pulled out his phone and glanced at the screen, his eyes filled with surprise. It was a message from Hoxton, an assassin from The Misfortune's Veil.

Matthew had dispatched the five remaining assassins of The Misfortune's Veil to deal with the Fuller family in Mistvale City. The goal was to annihilate them.

But the Fuller family wasn't wiped out yet, so Matthew had Hoxton stay in Mistvale City to keep an eye on them. Now that Hoxton reached out to him, something must have happened over there.

Matthew asked, "Did you find something?"

Soon after, Hoxton texted back, "I have a hunch that the Fuller family is up for something big. Three money trucks showed up at the Fuller residence today."

Three money trucks, huh? Matthew was taken aback by the news. They would only need more trucks when one truck couldn't fit everything. How much money could one truck hold? How about three?

After a pause, Matthew inquired, "Have you figured out what they're spending the money for?"

Hoxton swiftly responded, "Recently,

a young man showed up at the

Fuller residen

pretty

arrogant, with a big attitude notice

a dangerous, chilling air around him.

"If he's not a killer, I won't pick up that kind of murderous vibe. I'm pretty sure he's

killed someone before."

Seeing the message, Matthew had a

gut feeling that Leopold sent the

young man after him. It was

probably someone from an assassin organization like The Misfortune's Veror The Fate Order.

He immediately became wary. The last thing he wanted was for his parents and

Lorraine to face another attack from an assassin organization.

He still got nervous thinking about the time when The Misfortune's Veil's assassins set up ambushes at the entrance of Silverbrook Village.

Matthew sent another message. "Have you looked into his background?"

After some time, Matthew received another text from Hoxton. "We don't know who he is yet, but there's no doubt he's not just anyone.

"Leopold acted all humble and respectful in front of him. He's definitely someone important. Give me a day, and I might dig up something."

Matthew stared at his phone in silence as Hoxton's profile flashed in his mind.

Hoxton Ziegler was 29 years old and five foot three. He was single and worked in food delivery. With a master's in pharmaceutical

chemistry, he was skilled at t

out his victims by poisoning their food.

The profile didn't mention Hoxton's connections, so Matthew had no idea how he was going to investigate it.

Holding his phone in silence, Matthew paused for a moment before deciding to get

to the bottom of it. He typed quickly on his phone and promptly sent the message out.

"What's your plan to investigate the young man's identity?"
