Chapter 1076
Tessa got up and left the coffee shop, watching Matthew step into the elevator about 60 feet away. She just stood by the road, feeling anxious.
She took out her phone and dialed the same number that had been going unanswered. The phone kept ringing, but no one picked up.
Tessa felt restless. She didn't hang up until she was sure no one was picking up. Then, she muttered, "What the hell! Are they dead? Why aren't they answering?"
Passersby heard her cursing and looked at her with a frown.
Upon seeing this, Tessa climbed into the back of the car and leaned back against her seat. She stared out of the window at the entrance of Gembrooke Building.
Matthew made his way through the office area on the sixth floor, heading straight for Emily's lab. Just as he reached the door, he heard her flipping out.
He felt like he showed up at a bad time. Emily was usually easygoing and barely ever lost her cool, but she actually snapped at that moment. He couldn't help but wonder who had pissed her off.
Nevertheless, Matthew bit the bullet and walked into the lab, only to find Emily yelling at a man. The man was facing away, so he couldn't tell who the man was. He didn't want to get in the way, so he just stood off to the side and waited.
Emily scolded in disappointment, "Are you a pig?"
Mathew didn't expect Emily to say something like that. She was typically so refined and polite, but she sounded really harsh at that moment.
The man lowered his head and didn't say a word. Upon seeing this, Emily's anger flared up. "I'm talking to you. Are you ignoring me on purpose?"
The man stayed quiet because he knew he was at fault.
Emily suddenly raised her volume. "I'm getting old, and I can already feel the reaper coming for me. I won't just let my life slip by without any accomplishments. Stop bothering me already. Why are you still standing here? Get lost!"
The man hummed in acknowledgment and started walking off.
When the man turned around, Matthew immediately realized who he was. "Professor Brewer?"
It turned out it was actually Sonny. He stuck around to work on the mechanical exoskeleton research because of Emily. Unlike the last time Matthew saw him, he wore a wig that day.
From behind, Sonny looked nothing like the bald scientist Matthew remembered. Upon seeing Matthew, Sonny asked in surprise, "What brings you here, Mr. Grant?" Matthew nodded. "I'm looking for Professor Bolton."
Sonny grabbed Matthew by the hand and pulled him outside. "Don't make things harder for Professor Bolton, Mr. Grant. Didn't you see me just get yelled at? Her time is precious, so let's not disturb her."
Matthew was about to pull his hand back when Emily spoke up. "You go ahead first, Sonny."
Sonny explained with a smile, "You're busy with your research, so I can't have Mr. Grant get in your way."
Emily waved her hand. "It's fine. Mr. Grant needs me for something important. You can head out first."
Sonny was taken aback. He was in disbelief that Emily had asked him to leave but kept Matthew around. He looked at Matthew for a moment before reluctantly leaving.
Emily gazed at Matthew and asked, "Do you need something?"
After Emily established the lab, Matthew hardly ever bothered her. Every time he came to her, it was always for something important, so she knew he had a reason to talk to her.
Matthew went straight to the point. "In traditional medicine, we have the Harmona Sect that aims to integrate traditional and modern medicine have the best traditional medicine practitioners and two doctors practicing modern medicine. We're all working toward this goal.
"But we've realized that we don't really know the theories behind traditional medicine
or how it works inside the body. We want to research this. What do you think is the best place to start?
Emily was a little surprised. "That's quite an ambitious goal."
Matthew chuckled. "I just want to give it a shot."
He didn't dare make any big promises because none of the sixteen treatment plans
were any good today. He knew how tough it could get.
Emily paused for a while. "This is too complicated for me to sum it up in a few
sentences. It's not something I can tell you off the top of my head.
"I'll set aside some time to dive into it and consult with a few friends who do medical
and pharmaceutical research. Then I can get back to you."
Matthew suddenly realized he had been too hasty, but Emily tackled the problem differently. As a scientist, she wouldn't jump to conclusions without knowing all the facts That alone was worth respecting.
Matthew grinned and responded, "Alright. I'll wait for your update. I won't take up
any more of your time today. Feel free to get back to what you're doing."
After saying that, Matthew quickly waved goodbye, worried that he might be interrupting Emily.
