Chapter 1075
Matthew thought it over and realized it made sense. After all, the traditional
medicine practitioners from the major sects gathered here. They even had two renowned doctors practicing modern medicine, so treating colds was a piece of cake.
He was eager to see the results. "Quick. Show me the treatment plan already."
Renae opened the door and walked inside. Tony, Kingston, Jenny, Renae, Silas, Sebastian, Carson, Pierre, Otto, and Durban were all there.
Tony picked up a folder from his desk and passed it to Matthew. "Have a look. These are the 16 cold treatments we came up with by putting together traditional and modern medicine."
Matthew opened the file to the first page. It listed the 16 treatment plans that targeted symptoms like stuffy nose, cough, fever, and chills.
The first plan was to start with antibiotics to fight inflammation. If the temperature went over 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit, acetaminophen and ibuprofen would be given to the patient.
Then, the patient would have to take a traditional medicine remedy to reduce the temperature, ease the cough, and induce sweating.
The smile on Matthew's face faded as he read. By the end, he looked disappointed.
After going through the first plan, Matthew moved on to the next treatment plan and kept reading until he went through all 16 of them.
Matthew set down the folder. "The Harmona Sect emphasizes about integrating. It's much more complicated than combining them.
"Let's take the first treatment plan as an example. Fever happens because the immune system raises body temperature to kill viruses and bacteria. It does this by boosting activity in the hypothalamus and producing more prostaglandins.
"It increases blood pressure and reduces how easily our blood vessels let things through, helping to increase body temperature by cutting down on sweating. But if the temperature gets too high, the human body just can't take it before the virus is dead.
"Essentially, the immune system just kicks in automatically. But if the temperature gets too high, it starts threatening our life. What's supposed to protect the body ends up killing it.
"The way ibuprofen works is by reducing hypothalamus activity and slowing down prostaglandin production. This helps relax the blood vessels, so things can flow easily in them. That restores regular sweating and temperature regulation.
"Basically, modern medicine gets the body temperature back to normal first, without tackling the virus. Meanwhile, the traditional counterpart lowers the fewer by relaxing the blood vessels and improving blood flow, cooling down the body.
"The two medicines do the same thing. If you take them down together, wouldn't it mess with the immune system? Isn't it dangerous?"
Otto chimed in. "The way modern medicine works is pretty clear, and the cooling mechanism is straightforward as well. But we don't knowwhich ingredient in traditional medicine relaxes the blood vessels and promotes blood circulation. Figuring that out will make things easier."
Matthew sported a bitter smile. "Traditional medicine is all about energy balance. It has its own set of theories and we can't provets with science. Honestly, science can't validate how it works right now."
Renae frowned. "Are you saying the 16 treatment plans we've come up with don't actually work?"
Matthew nodded. "That's right."
He thought using the simplest cold as a starting point to combine traditional and modern medicine would be easy. With so many doctors in both segments, finding a treatment plan should be a breeze.
At that moment, Matthew realized it was more complex than he thought. So, what was the next step?
Everyone in the office was dead silent, and the mood was heavy.
After a while, Tony suggested, "If it's
about studying the theories of
traditional medicine, no one in this
office can do it. We're good at treating patients, putove need to get
we
Scientists to do the research."
Scientist? Matthew's eyes lit up. "Work together and see if there's another way. I'll
go meet someone and be back shortly."
Tessa sat near the window at the coffee shop across from Gembrooke Building. Her eyes kept staring at the entrance of Gembrooke Building.
She finished her coffee. Even though it was supposed to wake her up, her eyelids were somehow getting heavier. Right before her eyes were about to shut, a figure suddenly came into view.
Tessa snapped her eyes open. Upon looking closely, she spotted Matthew jogging into the building.
Her heart jumped to her throat, and she thought to herself, "Could Matthew have found a buyer and come to retrieve the exoskeleton from the company?"
