Chapter 969
Matthew was swamped. He didn't even have the time to teach Mason medicine.
Thinking about this, Matthew turned down Carson right away. "Forget it. I'm too busy to teach you. You're about ten years older than me. It won't work out."
Rebecca dropped to her knees too. "Take Carson under your wing, please. Learning medicine is his life pursuit. He doesn't care about money or using his medical skills to get rich.
"All he wants is to be a famous doctor and help people. Please be his mentor."
Beside them, Pierre pressed his hands together and pleaded, "Please accept Carson. He's the most devoted person to medicine I've ever met."
Seeing two people older than him on their knees, Matthew started feeling uneasy. "Come on. Get up. We can talk about this.
"What year is it? Who kneels to get a mentor? That's not how things are done now. Get up and we'll discuss it."
Carson obediently got up. "Thank you. I—"
Rebecca was still kneeling when she yelled at Carson as he was getting up. "Drop to your knees, Carson. This is the opportunity you've been waiting for your whole life. If you miss it, you'll never have another one."
Carson's expression paled. With a thud, he knelt on the floor again. "Please, Mr. Grant. I really want to learn under your wing."
Matthew glanced at Rebecca again, feeling amazed by how sharp she was. Seeing how the couple was on their knees again, he had no choice but to accept the request. "Fine. You'll be my apprentice from now on."
Rebecca beamed. "I appreciate that, Mr. Grant. Carson is an honest man. If he messes up, just give him a good scolding. Thanks for the favor."
Matthew nodded. "Stand up. I'm going to teach him medicine, not to discipline him. He has to rely on himself."
Rebecca was momentarily taken aback, then added, "A mentor is like a father figure. Even if Carson is older-"
Matthew raised his hand and interrupted Rebecca. "Why don't you be my apprentice instead?"
Rebecca was stunned. She quickly shook her head. "Sorry. I've overstepped. I'll keep quiet and not say anything."
After saying that, Rebecca glared at Carson. He was supposed to say all of that, but he was terrible with words. In the end, she just came across as being irritating.
Noticing Rebecca's glare, Carson was at a loss. "I'll be obedient, Mr. Grant. I'll do whatever you say. From now on, I won't listen to my wife. I'll listen to you."
Matthew tried not to laugh. The way Carson spoke was something else...
He couldn't take it anymore. "Enough already. I'm taking you as my apprentice." Carson was so fired up that he couldn't speak straight. "Really? Thank you so much. Rebecca and I appreciate it. Our family will be forever indebted to you—"
Matthew nodded. "Alright. I got it. Let's go. We can talk inside."
Carson suddenly came to his senses. "Right. We can't just leave you standing here. Let's head inside and chat, Mr. Grant."
Upon entering Carson's place, Matthew and Pierre took a seat in the living room.
Carson sat down to keep Matthew company, and Rebecca hurriedly fetched some water and snacks.
After drinking the water, Matthew set the cup down. "Let's skip the small talk. I came here to get Five Integrations of Traditional and Modern Medicine. Give me the book first."
Carson opened the drawer of the coffee table. He pulled out a tattered book and handed it to Matthew with both hands. "Here's the book you asked for, Mr. Grant."
Matthew grabbed the book. The pages were ragged, and the writing on the book faded a little. Luckily, he could still make out the words.
Upon seeing "Five Integrations of Traditional and Modern Medicine," atthe felt a mix of emotions stirred up within him.
Matthew's favorite was the Harmona Sect. At least, he finally got his hands on their medical book.
When he opened the book, the content of the cover page was in plain sight. "The Harmona Sect aims to integrate traditional and modern medicine."
Upon reading that, Matthew felt a surge of excitement. The reason he was drawn to Harmona Sect was because of this pursuit.
Matthew kept reading and found a small passage in delicate writing. "Be true to your roots and stay loyal to the tradition. When the values align, there'll be no conflict. That's the foundation for building
something lasting.
"Integrating modern medicine is about taking what's useful and learning what works. The Harmona Sect encourages such practices because it's the driving force to move forward."
Matthew couldn't help but feel fired up after reading that.
The other sects in Eight Medical Sects were all about preserving the old ways and holding on to what was passed down.
Unlike the others, the Harmona Sect

stood out because it preserved the tradition and then blended it with modern science and modern medicine. The goal was to improve traditional medicine and develop for the new era.
Seeing Matthew holding the book so excitedly, Carson gingerly asked, "Is the medical book so amazing?"
Matthew furrowed his brows as he
glared at Carson. "The book is the Harmona Sect's defining work. It's the only one that sets a clear. direction for traditional medicine, a masterpiece that shapes its future. Do you think it's important?" .net
Carson sported a troubled look. "You're stretching it a bit, Mr. Grant. If this book is
really that amazing, why does the medical knowledge in it seem so childish?"
