Chapter 986
But Nicholas actually said that. That was so beneath him. Was he still the same person Ansel knew?
Upon seeing Matthew slip the Juprus Ring back on his finger, Nicholas' expression eased up into a faint smile before quickly going back to his solemn look.
"I never really brought this up with you, but I guess I'll talk about it today. I've taken
on some apprentices before, and all of them failed. Maybe they were just too kind and too honest."
Matthew felt speechless. Why did it feel like Nicholas was implying that he wasn't kind or honest?
Nicholas continued, "In this day and age, I feel like good people just can't get things done. That's why I went to prison where there are a lot of bad people.
"I figured I'd find an apprentice inside and teach him everything I know. That's when I met you, and I knew right away you were the one.
"Later, I found that you went to prison for your wife, not for something you did. That was when I kind of regretted it. You should've sensed it when I didn't teach you a single thing during that period."
Matthew recalled how irritable Nicholas was during that time. Back then, he didn't think too much about it, assuming Nicholas was bothered by something outside prison. So, he was surprised to learn the truth.
"But why did you keep teaching me after that?"
Nicholas sighed. "Honestly, you're my favorite apprentice. You had a natural talent, and you picked up on medicine so quickly. When I taught you martial arts, you understood it so well that you could figure more on your own.
"I felt like if I passed up on you, I'd never find such a great apprentice again. So, I decided to keep teaching you."
This was the first time Matthew heard something like that from Nicholas. When he was learning from Nicholas in prison, Nicholas kept saying he was too slow to get it.
At that time, Matthew pushed himself to the limit, studying and practicing like a madman just so Nicholas would stop calling him dumb.
Nicholas added, "I've given you everything, but I'm still not confident about you. So, I gave you the mission to collect medical books and legacy items from the Eight Medical Sects.
"I have to admit that you've exceeded my expectations. You got the job done in no time. Starting today, I'm officially passing the Juprus Ring to you."
Matthew looked at the Juprus Ring and lamented, "Since we're on our own in the Jurpus Order, that makes the ring pointless."
Nicholas glared at Matthew. "Who says we're alone? The members of the Juprus Order spread far and wide in our nation, hiding the ever fine of work. If you want to be the head of Jurus Order, you need to unite them."
Uniting the Juprus Order? Matthew couldn't shake the words Nicholas had spoken earlier.
"Unite our people from all walks of life around the world and bring them together, so we can forge the mighty dragon that stands above all.
"The dragon will be untouchable, and no one can stand against it. It's as formidable as the sun, overwhelming everything in its path."
The words kept looping in Matthew's head, getting louder each time. Soon, they were all he could think about.
He could feel his heart pumping as if a force within him was urging him to bring the Jurprus Order members together.
Matthew was fired up. His body was shaking, and he could feel his blood rushing up to his head. "Sure thing. I'll reunite the Juprus Order."
Nicholas was taken aback. He didn't expect Matthew to agree so easity. "Since you're on board, I'll tell you the plan to bring them together. You'll find a list with Anser, so go search for them one by one."
Matthew suddenly thought of something. "Where's the Juprus Blade?"
As far as he knew, when the Juprus Blade was drawn, everyone in the Juprus Order
had to follow his command. That blade represented Juprus' authority.
Nicholas glanced at Matthew with a meaningful look. "Gather all the people of the Juprus Order. Only if
they're willing to shed blood for the Juprus Blade will you be worthy to wield it.
Matthew thought for a moment and it seemed to make sense. "Got it."
Nicholas sported a solemn look. "I have to warn you about it. This path can be dangerous, so you should be as discreet as possible.
"If those people catch wind of you bringing the Juprus Order together, it'll be chaos. You'll be in trouble and danger all the time, like the whole world is out to get you."
