Chapter 511
The moment Josefina's words hit the air, Lena's eyes widened in shock.
How could that old woman remember anything about that night? Lena's mind raced.
No, even if she did remember, it wouldn't matter. If she just denied everything, that would be the end of it, right?
Just as Lena was about to defend herself, Josefina's voice cut through her thoughts.
"Grandma remembers everything she saw that night. She saw a hand with a red string bracelet, and on it, a lucky charm bead. In the entire Harrison estate, you were the only one wearing that bracelet, Lena. How do you even have the nerve to come home?"
Josefina's certainty threw Lena into a tailspin.
"And Lena," Josefina continued, "you targeted Grandma because she overheard you talking about poisoning someone, didn't she? Now that I've laid it all out, what do you have to say for yourself?"
Lena was speechless, her face pale, eyes wide with disbelief, still trying to come up with a defense.
"Why are you so sure it was me? I'm not the only one in the estate with a charm bracelet. There are so many servants around; why are you blaming me?"
"Do you think we didn't investigate?" Josefina shot back. "Only a few people can enter the main house where the master sleeps. That night, you were the one wearing the bracelet; Grandma remembers it clearly. Lena, the Harrison family took you in and raised you for eighteen years, and this is how you repay them?" Memories of that night flooded Lena's mind, but she was still unsure if Emily had truly seen her.
"I need to get inside. I need to explain everything to Grandma myself!"
Lena tried to push past Josefina, but a bodyguard standing nearby kicked her away.
She fell to the ground, her eyes burning with hatred as she glared at Josefina. "This is all your fault, Josefina. You just want to kick me out of the Harrisons and take all the glory for yourself, don't you?"
Josefina crouched down, her expression cold as she sneered at Lena. "Lena, what goes around comes around. If you were kind and respectful, the Harrisons wouldn't cast you aside. Your downfall is your own doing; you can't blame anyone else."
Lena reached for a rock, wanting to smash Josefina's face, but the ground was smooth and clean.
Instead, she extended her nails, aiming to scratch Josefina's face.
Before her hand could reach its target, Josefina grabbed it tightly, causing Lena to cry out in pain.
Tears streamed down Lena's face as the pain overwhelmed her.
Josefina stood, looking down at Lena with disdain. "Lena, if you tell us who your accomplice is, maybe we'll consider letting you back into the Harrison family."
Josefina knew that to negotiate with Lena, she needed to offer what Lena wanted most. Offering it was one thing; actually giving it, quite another.
But Lena would never betray that person. It was impossible.
Lena got to her feet, clutching her arm, glaring at Josefina. "I want to see my parents. I have something to say to them. Josefina, move aside; I'm going in."
"You may want to see them, but they don't want to see you, Lena. Unless you name that person, they never will!"
Just as Lena was about to speak again, Hattie appeared.
Hattie looked at Lena with a complex expression, and Lena's tears flowed.
"Mom, are you really giving up on me? Mom, I'm Lena, your daughter. Are you truly going to throw me out?"
