Chapter 640

Miss Josefina: Nobody's Princess · Dana E.

Oliver paused, but didn't ask Josefina why she wasn't eating.

Josefina waved over the restaurant owner, who quickly approached their table.

"I noticed a unique smell in the dipping sauce. What did you add to it?" Josefina asked.

The owner, grinning widely, replied, "Our recipes are a closely guarded secret. I can't share that information."

Josefina stood up and handed a taco to the owner. "It smells too good. I don't dare eat it. You try a bite."

The owner stepped back, startled. "We can't eat from the customers' plates. Just enjoy it, it's a real treat."

Josefina scoffed, "How can anyone enjoy it if they're dead?"

Suddenly, the owner pulled out a gun and aimed it at Josefina.

The hunt was on.

Oliver grabbed a skewer from the table and threw it at the attackers.

Josefina swiftly moved behind a nearby cabinet for cover.

Seizing a chair, Oliver hurled it towards their assailants, finally understanding why Josefina had insisted on being his secretary—this had been an ambush!

Fueled by rage, Oliver didn't back down. Instead, he threw a wine bottle at the attackers.

The owner and four waiters dodged as best they could, while Josefina wasn't idle either-her bracelet shot out tiny silver darts.

Two of the attackers, including the owner, were hit and quickly became too weak to hold their weapons, which clattered to the floor.

At that moment, Oliver's bodyguards stormed in, subduing the attackers.

Relieved to see Josefina unharmed, Oliver approached her.

Hand in hand, they made their way to the car.

...

Oliver fetched a bottle of water from the car's cooler, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to yosefina before taking a sip himself.

"Josie, did you know someone was out to get me?" he asked.

Nodding, Josefina replied, "When I took the call, I was informed of the threat. I saw the message; someone wants you dead. My people are still trying to figure out who's behind it. This person is cunning covering

their tracks well.

Returning to Westwood had exposed them to numerous malicious individuals, each intent on lethal harm with clear motives.

Oliver's brows furrowed, his gaze darkening as he spoke icily, "Eighty percent chance it's Dominic."

Josefina laughed, "Dominic really is

useless. If only he had the guts to cam his own fortune. Perhaps money smells sweeter?"

Oliver pulled Josefina closer, whispering, "Everything about my people is sweeter."

Josefina, pushing Oliver away, "Now's not the time for flirting. Oliver, you need to figure this out."

"Only a few knew about the restaurant reservation. There must be a mole close to me," Oliver concluded.

Josefina chose not to meddle further, trusting Oliver to handle the situation.

...

Sydney was enjoying a massage chair session when her phone rang, dispelling her good mood with the news on the other end.

"Madam, the plan failed. Oliver didn't die, and that Josefina seemed to know we were targeting him, discovering our poison."

Sydney stood up, her gaze as venomous as ever.

"How could it fail! What's Josefina's background? I asked you to investigate, and yet you've found nothing?"

The caller, trembling, explained, "Madam, either Josefina's background is well- hidden, or she's a nobody."

Sydney only knew the identity Josefina had claimed for herself—a designer named Anya. Beyond that, she was in the dark.
