Chapter 714
"Livia hasn't come back yet, and I have no idea what's going on with the young master. He returned, just lay on the couch without saying a word, and wouldn't even let me tend to his wounds. I had no choice but to call you."
Shay, clearly annoyed, snapped, "Only call me for important matters from now on. Don't bother me with trivial things like this, understood?"
The servant was taken aback, not expecting such a response from Shay. Wasn't Shay fond of Finley? Why wouldn't she want to know about things like this? Could she not care for Finley after all?
Before the servant could ponder further, Shay had already left. Still puzzled, the servant turned around, only to find Finley standing right behind her, which made her jump and feel a pang of guilt.
"Young master," she muttered, her voice betraying her unease.
Finley's piercing gaze made her even more anxious.
"From this moment on, you're no longer employed here. Consider yourself dismissed," Finley declared coldly.
The servant, panicked, quickly pleaded, "Young master, why are you firing me? What did I do wrong? I can change. I've served you for years. Without me, who will look after you?"
Finley scoffed and questioned, "Was it you who called Shay? Talking about my private matters, where's your professional integrity?"
The servant hadn't expected Finley to bring this up. His icy stare silenced any further attempts at defense.
Josefina, holding the glass Rowan had drunk from, made her way to the lab. Percy was there too and greeted her with a smile, "Hey Josie, you're here."
"I met with Rowan. This is his glass. Percy, you take it from here."
"Got it. I'll run the analysis right away," Percy said, taking the glass to the adjacent lab.
Meanwhile, Josefina entered
another lab to check on the status of the parasitic worm. She had been closely monitoring Alivia's condition. To improve Alivia's health, the worm had to be lured away. The wor seemed to be thriving in its glass jar which offered Josefina some relief.
...
After the analysis, Percy had the results. "Comparing Rowan's saliva, I've confirmed traces of the worm in his system."
Josefina wasn't particularly surprised by Percy's findings. Given how closely Rowan followed Sydney's directions, it was likely he had been cursed.
"I'll have my mentor reach out to a renowned worm breeder in the West, see if we can track any leads. Once we know exactly what type of curse Sydney used, we can figure out how to break it," Josefina mentioned.
Percy nodded, "No wonder Rowan was so smitten with Sydney, insisting on marrying no one but her. His feelings weren't genuine; they were manipulated."
Thinking of Oliver's mother, who died with a heart full of bitterness, whether Rowan's affection for Sydney was real or not was still up for debate.
"Do you think we should tell Oliver?" Percy inquired.
Josefina shook her head, "Let's hold off until we're sure. It's easy to give people false hope with uncertainties. I don't want to raise Oliver's hopes only to dash them later."
Percy remained silent,
understanding from Josefina's
demeanor how deeply she cared for
Oliver It was clear Josefina truly had
feelings for him, considering his Welfare so earnestly.
Just as Josefina sat down, her phone began to ring.
