Chapter 768
Josefina was genuinely caught off guard when she discovered Oliver had gone all out to get her a custom-made office chair.
"Oliver, you really didn't have to go through the trouble of getting me a special chair. I can sit anywhere," she remarked.
Leaning casually against his desk, Oliver looked at Josefina with a soft smile.
"Josie, whatever's mine is yours."
Josefina held back a response, well aware of Oliver's flair for sweet talk.
"Alright, let's get back to work. I've got a mountain of tasks waiting for me," she said, turning back to her desk.
Oliver just nodded with a knowing smile, diving back into his own work.
He fired up his computer and logged into the messaging app, ready to tackle the afternoon's agenda, which included reaching out to some contacts about The Moon.
Luke's message popped up: "Boss, got some intel. The guy asking around for The Bull is a well-known fixer in the underground scene. We'll need to go through him to figure out who the buyer is."
"Where can I find him?" Josefina inquired.
"He hits the bar for drinks around five in the evening these days. You can catch him there; he won't dare cross you."
"Alright, I'll handle it then."
With that settled, Josefina immersed herself in her work. Occasionally, she'd glance over at Oliver, still absorbed in his tasks. Even in silence, his presence was commanding. When he wasn't smiling, he looked rather formidable, a detail Josefina noted as she refocused on her work.
Meanwhile, Oliver glanced up, his gaze softening as he watched Josefina fully immersed in her tasks. Quietly, he pulled out his phone, set it to silent, and discreetly snapped a photo of her. Her head was down, her face hidden from view.
He posted the picture on his social media with the caption: "Looking forward to a future working side by side ❤."
The post wasn't bombarded with comments, but the ones from close friends and family came through quickly.
Finley commented, "Yeah, yeah, we get it. You've got a girlfriend. Aren't you just the best."
Brandon added, "Oh, look at my grandson's lady. Don't work her too hard now."
And from the old man: "You little rascal, you've got a girlfriend? And didn't bother to tell me? I've been out here playing matchmaker for you!"
However, the post reached someone who shouldn't have seen it.
Shay, confined to her hospital bed and surrounded by heavy security, was seething with rage. Despite her severe injuries, including brain hypoxia and deep cuts on her legs. that left her unable to move, her spirit burned with hatred.
All because of Josefina.
It was Josefina who had left her in this living nightmare.
In a moment of frustration, Shay slammed her fist into her pillow, accidentally hitting her injured leg and crying out in pain.
Just then, Sydney walked in, exclaiming, "Shea, did you smuggle a dog in here? What's with all the barking? You know pets aren't allowed in the hospital."
Shay was left speechless.
Not seeing any dog, Sydney continued, "Is it hiding under the bed? Shea, I know you love dogs, but there's a time and place."
Through gritted teeth, Shay replied, "Mom, I didn't bring any dog in here."
Sydney looked puzzled, her brow furrowed.
"Shea, how are your legs? Any better?"
With a heavy sigh, Shay answered, "No change. That witch Josefina mustve poisoned the blade. The wounds itch like crazy, and I can't even scratch them. Mom, I really want Josefina to pay!"
Bedridden and unable to care for herself, Shay was at her wit's end Earlier with her nurse stepping out she'd had an accident in bed adding to her humiliation. fo
Life felt like an unbearable struggle.
