When I asked the nurse, I found out Jane had stepped out.

Shay was a bit worried, "Do you think Master would've given in to Josefina?"

Sydney shook her head, "Nah, your master's way too proud to bow down to Josefina."

Shay nodded in agreement, "Yeah, no way my master would stoop that low. She's got too much pride."

Just then, Jane walked back in. Shay, eager to help, jumped up, "Master, where've you been? If you need anything, just holler. You should take it easy."

Jane sat down with a fierce expression, making Shay and Sydney wonder what had rattled her.

Sydney piped up, “Ms. Jane, did that troublemaker Josefina get under your skin again?"

Jane shot a glance at Sydney, mentally reminding herself to stay calm.

Sydney pushed on, "Why not just deal with Josefina once and for all?"

Jane quipped, “Why don't you deal with her? You're the one who can't stand her, right?"

That shut Sydney up.

Jane was fuming but kept it together. She forced a smile, which almost sent Sydney scurrying.

Jane's smile was anything but friendly. You could tell she was no pushover. With that smile, Sydney shifted a bit to the right.

Jane teased, "What? Scared of me?"

Sydney forced a grin, “Ms. Jane,

what's our next move? We can't just let Josefina fun wild She's

challenging you, and you can't let her slide."

"She's your enemy. You deal with her. Think I'll jump because you're trying to provoke me?"

Jane got up to gather her things, “You handle this mess yourselves. I'm busy and need to get back."

Sydney and Shay exchanged panicked glances. Why was Jane leaving all of a sudden? What had happened?

Sydney stepped forward, "Ms. Jane, why are you leaving so suddenly? What's going on? We'll do what we can to help."

"You two can barely manage yourselves, so how do you plan on helping me?"

Jane's retort left Sydney and Shay feeling embarrassed. Jane packed her bags and headed for the door.

Shay slumped down, her mind in turmoil. Finley was out of the picture, and Jane had backed off knowing the challenge.

Sydney sighed, “I've made some calls. We need backup. Without it, we're no match for Josefina."

Shay's face brightened, "The cavalry against Josefina isn't it on its way?"
