Chapter 898
Josefina was seething, barely holding back a torrent of curses that would make a sailor blush. The guy in front clearly had the physical advantage. She quickly sized him up and aimed a swift kick at his groin, hoping to catch him off guard. But he caught Josefina's right leg with an almost insulting ease. Desperate, she kicked his shin with her left leg. He winced, and in that fleeting moment of pain, she slipped free.
"What's your problem? We've got no beef, and here you are, picking a fight," she snapped.
He shot back, "What are you doing here? Who sent you?"
"I'm not here to be your enemy, but I'm not sticking around for chit-chat. Bye!" Josefina turned on her heel and left, her mind racing with concern for Shay. Living like Shay was tougher than death itself.
...
Shay was rushed to the hospital in record time, thanks to Sydney's quick thinking. She had tracked Shay's location via her phone. Unable to reach her by phone, Sydney headed to the scene with the ambulance.
Standing outside the operating room, Sydney's face was stormy, her eyes fierce with worry. Dominic looked utterly defeated, like he'd been hit by a freight train. When Rowan arrived, Sydney's fierce demeanor melted away in an instant, replaced by tears streaming down her face.
"Rowan, someone ran Shea down. It was a deliberate hit-and-run!"
"Do we know who did it?" Rowan asked.
"Not yet, the cops are still on it," Sydney replied, wiping away her tears, visibly shaken.
"Shea's so kind-hearted, wouldn't
hurt a fly. How did she end up crossing paths with such cruel
bastards? Rowan's mind
rimediately
arted to over."
Whenever trouble brewed, Oliver
somehow always popped into
Rowan's thoughts. And now,
habitually, Oliver was the first suspect.
"I'll have someone look into Oliver. If he's behind this, I'll drag him to hell with me if it's the last thing I do!"
A flicker of excitement passed through Sydney's eyes, quickly hidden. "Rowan, calm down. It might not be Oliver."
Dominic chimed in, "Dorian's been on my case non-stop. I doubt he'd have time for this."
Rowan was at his wit's end, frustrated beyond belief by Oliver. "That kid, always at odds with me!" Rowan sighed heavily, feeling utterly defeated by Oliver's continual one-upmanship.
"Rowan, maybe it's not Oliver. Maybe someone else wanted Shea dead."
"Who could Shea possibly offend? She's gentle and kind," Rowan
pondered, Sydney was stumped by
the questionem seer
the question
but voicing
She had her suspicions seemed
Thappropriate. Yet, she was too
restless to let it go. Catching
Sydney's dilemma, Dominic
understood whom she wanted to
blame.
"Let's wait for the police to finish their investigation. They'll surely come up with
something. Then we'll know who's behind this," Dominic suggested.
With Dominic speaking up, Sydney had no choice but to hold her
tongue. They waited two more
hours, but the light outside theet
operating room remained on.
Sydney suggested Rowan gohome to rest while she and Dominic stayed behind. Rowan left without a second thought.
Watching him leave, Sydney couldn't hide her disdain. "Rowan, so useless. Shea's not his blood, but after all these years together, he just leaves, doesn't even wait for Shea to come out." Sydney was fed up, wanting nothing more to do with Rowan.
