Chapter 936
The car that was on her tail wasn't having any luck; it got stuck at a red light. Inside, one of the guys slammed his hand on the steering wheel, frustration etched all over his face. "Damn it! She got away! She must've seen us coming!"
"Quick, notify the boss we lost her. She's gotta come up with another plan."
Panic set in, and the blaring horns from the cars behind them just cranked up their stress levels. The driver yelled out, "What's the hurry, folks? You act like you're in a race to be reincarnated!"
Josefina made her way back to the security company and settled in to wait in Luke's office. Before long, Luke walked in.
"Boss, we've got the dirt. It's Marina. She didn't have much cash before, but now she's suddenly sitting on half a million."
Josefina chuckled softly. "Same old Marina, letting herself get played like a puppet."
Luke nodded. "Yeah, she's probably so eager to take you down that she doesn't mind being someone's tool."
"Well then, let's teach her what happens to someone who agrees to be a scapegoat."
"What's the plan, boss?" Luke inquired.
Josefina leaned in, whispering her strategy. Luke nodded along, understanding perfectly.
"Leave it to me, boss. I'll make sure it's done to perfection!"
With a nod of approval, Josefina left the security company.
Meanwhile, Shay was back at school after recovering. Joelle, who had been looking rather down, brightened up instantly like a puppy reunited with its owner.
"Shay, you're finally back!" Joelle exclaimed, practically bouncing with excitement.
"So, fill me in. What did I miss?" Shay asked, curious.
Joelle caught her up. "The school put together a team for an international competition next month. Josefina's leading it, and she chose Mandy and Damita togoin her"
Shay frowned. "Isn't Haylee from their dorm too? Why wasn't she included?"
"I heard they could only pick two people. Josefina went with Mandy and Damita. Haylee wasn't bothered, though. She said she's not as skilled and didn't mind staying behind."
Shay's anger flared. "What an idiot!"
"Exactly! Haylee's just naive.
Josefina Snubs her, and she's still all smiles about being friends with her.
Shay missing school was such a loss, that spot on the team should've been yours!"
"Of course! I'm more qualified than Josefina. If I hadn't taken leave, there's no way she'd have gotten that spot."
Joelle's eyes widened a bit—she was just buttering Shay up, not expecting her to buy it so completely. Shay seemed to have no real sense of her abilities.
Even though she lost the last competition, she still talked like she was the obvious choice.
Despite her internal critique, Joelle kept on with the praise.
Shay mused, "It's just a competition. Let's see if Josefina can actually snag first place."
Joelle smirked. "If she doesn't, the med students will drown her in criticism!"
Shay had a plan brewing in her head, but she knew patience was key, waiting for the right moment to make her move.
Josefina walked out of the campus and headed towards the parking lot. She could feel the footsteps echoing behind her.
Without breaking stride, Josefina was keenly aware someone was tailing her. She quickened her pace, the shadow keeping up.
Reaching a large concrete pillar, Josefina ducked behind it, using its bulk for cover.
From her bag, she pulled out something that looked like a lighter. With a quick press of a button, it transformed into a firm, thin wire.
Clutching her makeshift weapon, Josefina spun around to face her follower...
