Chapter 955
Josefina couldn't shake the feeling that Sydney and his crew wouldn't just disappear without a trace.
"After all the effort Sydney put into getting close to Rowan and taking control, there's no way he'd just walk away," she pondered aloud.
Oliver, casually leaning against the doorframe, nodded in agreement. "I'm with you on that. I've already got some folks looking into it, but nothing's come up yet."
Josefina lay back on the bed, turning to face Oliver. "What if Rowan decides to hand over all his shares to you? Would you take them?"
Oliver's face stayed unreadable. "Yeah, I would."
Josefina propped herself up on one elbow, giving him a curious look. "Really? I thought you'd say no."
"The company's shares... they're wasted on him."
"Yeah, they're definitely not safe with him," she agreed, getting up and stretching. "Come on, get up. I brought breakfast. Annika made it, and it's delicious."
But before she could move, Oliver playfully pulled her back, pinning her beneath him with a teasing smile. "Breakfast doesn't hold a candle to you."
Josefina rolled her eyes, just about to shove Oliver off when Nanshan barged in.
"Nanshan, with a fierce look, stormed over and pulled Oliver off her. "Hey, don't bully my mentor!"
Josefina quickly stepped in, gently pulling Nanshan back. "Nanshan, it's all good. He wasn't bullying me."
Nanshan's sincere eyes locked onto Josefina. "But he was all over you, hurting you."
Oliver raised his hands defensively, "I wasn't hurting Josie."
"Then why were you on top of her?" Nanshan demanded.
Feeling awkward, Josefina ushered Nanshan out of the room. "So, have you had your breakfast?"
"Yeah, it was really good," Nanshan replied, plopping down beside her on the couch. "Mentor, I've been waiting for you for ages. I really missed you."
Just then, Oliver, now fully dressed, squeezed between them, frowning slightly. "Nanshan, you've eaten, but your mentor hasn't. You're kinda in her way. Why don't you sit over there?"
Nanshan pouted, "Why can you sit here and I can't?"
Oliver answered plainly, "Because I haven't eaten either."
With a huff, Nanshan slumped onto the sofa, pulling out a game of Tetris to distract himself.
Oliver watched him for a moment,
then turned back to Josefina. "He's a sharp kid, picks ke up things in no time. t Do you think those folks are trying to create some kind of genius to do
their bidding?"
Josefina nodded, "That's exactly what they're up to."
"Josie, aren't you planning to send him back?" Oliver asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
"I'm in touch with his mentor. He'll
be here in a few days," Josefina sighed. She knew keeping Nanshan with her wasn't a long-term solution. Her schedule was jam-packed leaving little time to look after him. Luke and Percy were busy too, and finding someone trustworthy was risky, considering Nanshan's unpredictable nature. As much as it hurt, sending him back seemed like the best option.
Sitting on the sofa, Nanshan's eyes grew misty as he overheard their conversation. He didn't want to leave.
...
Meanwhile, Brandon made his way to Rowan, breaking the news of Sydney and his family's mysterious disappearance.
But he didn't stop there, adding another tidbit. "Sydney tried to take out Oliver and Josie. Luckily, they dodged that bullet. Otherwise, you'd be planning your son's funeral right now!"
Rowan was stunned, struggling to process everything. Then again, divorcing Sydney meant she wouldn't go down without a fight. Even cornered animals lash out, let alone Sydney.
Brandon kept on, "Hand over your shares to Oliver, no strings attached. You're not cut out to hold onto them. What did Sydney see in your not your wealth? Without money of power, let's see which woman will bother with you."
This wasn't the first time Rowan had thought about it. The past twenty years felt like
one big joke.
He felt utterly ridiculous.
Finally, he nodded, resigned. "I'm willing to give them to him."
