Chapter 956
"Are you really going to hand it over to Oliver? You're not just messing with me, are you?"
"Dad, after dodging death, what do I care about money? Just staying alive feels like a miracle. Money's just stuff."
Rowan was trying to smooth things over with Oliver.
Brandon thought for a moment before asking, "So, do you still think about settling down someday?"
Rowan sighed, "Dad, you still don't trust me. After nearly getting killed by Sydney, I'm not exactly eager to marry another potential killer."
Brandon nodded, seemingly pleased. "Rowan, looks like you've finally matured."
Rowan, feeling a bit exasperated, thought to himself, Haven't I grown enough already? I've got one foot in the grave.
Brandon's voice was weak as he went on, "I shouldn't have kicked your brother out. If he were around, you wouldn't be acting out like this."
"Dad, have you heard anything about him?"
"No, I've been searching all these years but still can't find him. If I don't see him before I pass, I won't be able to rest in peace."
The mention of his brother left both Rowan and Brandon in silence, the hospital room growing quiet.
Brandon broke the silence, "Sydney took off with Shay and Dominic. They're probably worried we'll retaliate. I've got people on their trail. Once they're found, they'll get what's coming to them."
"Dad, Dominic is your grandson. Would you really do him in, too?"
"He's got Sydney's blood—a bad seed all the way. If he comes back, do you think we could ever have peace? Let him fend for himself. I don't acknowledge him."
Rowan dared not argue further. It was best to let Brandon handle things his way. In this family, he had no say.
Rowan knew full well that if he hadn't turned things around when he did, Brandon would have long given up on him.
Josefina took Nanshan to Luke's security firm, leaving him there for the day the place was bustling with men, making it easier to keep an eye on Nanshan.
Luke, meeting Nanshan for the first time, praised, "He's got the makings of a great fighter."
Nanshan, feeling uneasy, clung to Josefina, wanting to leave.
Josefina gently reassured him, "Nanshan, I've got some errands to run. I can't stay with you. This is Luke a good friend of mine. Stay here until get back, okay?
Nanshan nodded reluctantly, agreeing to stay.
Once she had calmed him, Josefina gave Luke a few quick instructions before heading to her classes.
Nanshan, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, clutched Luke's arm. "Luke, are they going to beat me up?"
Luke was momentarily speechless.
Nanshan, despite towering over Luke, was sitting in a chair, holding onto Luke's arm like a kid, his fear starkly contrasting his size.
Luke sat down beside him, explaining patiently, "They're just training here. They
earn money through it, buy whatever they want to eat."
Nanshan's eyes lit up, "Can I earn money, too?"
With money, he could buy treats for his master.
Luke eyed the timid yet eager Nanshan and asked softly, "Can you fight?"
"I can hit people."
A few of the trainees wandered over, overhearing Nanshan's claim and chuckling. "Seriously? You know how to fight? You don't really look the part.
Nanshan jumped up, facing the four men, and flexed his fists. Grinning, he
challenged, "How about a match? Will I get paid if I win?"
The group was momentarily taken aback, unsure whether to laugh or be impressed.
