Chapter 1323
"I know." Luella smiled faintly and waved a hand dismissively. "I haven't made things
difficult for you, have I? Go home and rest. Come back tomorrow morning."
"Yes, sir."
Kate glanced at the time. It was only 7 PM.
Back when she worked directly under her old boss, she was constantly forced to stay until midnight.
All because her younger siblings were still in college.
She needed the money.
And because she came from a poor background, she was easy to control.
If she didn't obey, her boss would find a way to ruin her siblings' futures.
And her own hard-earned career would go up in smoke. Nobody would ever hire her again.
When she was ordered to spy on the eldest son of the Langley family, she had been terrified.
Rumors painted Luella as a violent, cold-blooded monster. Kate had come here expecting the absolute worst.
She hadn't expected this.
Luella was actually incredibly mild-tempered. And brilliantly competent.
She was far more capable than most of the senior officials in the Political Council.
She was entirely qualified to be the future Executive Chief.
After Kate left.
Megan walked in carrying a tray of food.
"I heard you haven't eaten all day," Megan said, her face lined with worry. "I made you a little something. Please, try to eat."
"Megan, could you pack it up? I'm going out to eat," Luella said softly.
"Out?"
"Yeah." Luella nodded. "A friend came to town. I'm going to see them."
"A friend?"
Megan looked confused, then a hopeful smile spread across her face. "Is it Ms. Payne? If it is, I'd really love to meet her."
She wanted to personally thank her for taking care of her precious girl. If not for Ms. Payne, Luella might have ended her own life a long time ago.
"No, it's not her." Luella scratched her head, unsure of how to explain it. "It's someone else."
The fewer people who knew about this, the better.
"Oh, I see." Megan looked a bit disappointed but packed the food away neatly. "Come back early."
"I might not make it back tonight. If Lachlan asks, just tell him you don't know."
Luella took the container and took the private elevator straight down to the parking garage.
At the hotel.
Jimmie had slept all day, finally getting some color back in his face.
He stepped out of the shower.
Picking up his phone, he saw it was already 8 PM.
Aside from Clark updating him on his schedule, and his sister checking to see "if he
was still alive," his inbox was completely empty.
Especially from Luella.
He had sent her countless texts throughout the day, and all she sent back was a single word:Busy.
Cold.
Heartless.
Was she lying to him again? Did she run off somewhere else?
At that thought.
Jimmie gripped his phone, flipping through his contacts as he started marching toward the door.

Just then, the suite door swung open. Luella, dressed in casual clothes, leaned against the frame, looking him up and down with,
mused smirk Well look at you. had no idea the superstar enjoyed parading around half-naked
Jimmie looked down, realizing in his panic that he hadn't actually gotten dressed.
He was still in his bathrobe.
"I thought you weren't coming back," Jimmie said, his voice thick and husky. "I was just about to go find you."
"Huh?" Luella's heart skipped a beat
She took a step inside, raising an eyebrow "And where exactly were you planning to catch me superstar?"
no
"The ends of the earth." Jimmie lowered his head until his nose brushed against hers, his breathing slightly tagged No matter where you are, I'll always find you content
"Tch."
Luella's pulse hammered, but she feigned nonchalance. "That is so cheesy. Did you
learn that from Shanley?"
(Shanley: Me?)
