Not wanting to spoil the surprise, Elliana simply smiled. “Forget about Lance. I’m telling you, you’re destined to end up with Allan. You’d better get used to the idea of being Mrs. Shaw.”
“What are you talking about?” Adah’s eyes widened, caught between disbelief and amusement. “My decision is already made, and nothing can change my mind. Whatever he decides to give me, I’ll insist that I don’t like it. He won’t get another chance to bother me. There is no way I’m ending up as Mrs. Shaw.”
Elliana didn’t argue. She simply nodded. “We’re here. You can go now.”
Adah, baffled by her friend’s reaction, opened her mouth to ask more, but Elliana waved her off. “I have to go. I have a husband and children waiting for me at home.”
With a resigned laugh, Adah stepped out of the car.
As Elliana pulled away from Rosewood Villa, she took out her phone and quickly called Ruben. The moment he answered, she got straight to the point. “I’m afraid I can’t do what you’ve asked. It may be hard to accept, but you’ll have to face it: Adah is not going to join your family. She is definitely going to marry someone from the Shaw family.”
“Why do you say that?” The old man’s tone shot up, laced with disbelief. “Lance is a successful and handsome man, and the Evans family has money and power. You’re her best friend and my granddaughter-in-law. Why wouldn’t she choose us? Elliana, did you at least try for Lance’s sake?”
The woman let out half a laugh and half a sigh. “Trying isn’t enough anymore. Allan has an ace up his sleeve that no one can beat. You could wager the entire Evans family fortune and still wouldn’t stand a chance.”
To avoid getting drawn into further arguments, she quickly added, “I have things to do, so I can’t come by to see you. Have a good day!”
She ended the call before he could respond and immediately dialed Cole’s number.
The call had barely connected when Elliana’s urgent voice came through. “Cole, grab the kids and head to Regal Grove right now. We need to stay there for a while. Hurry!”
In his study, buried in paperwork, Cole frowned as he tried to make sense of what she was saying. “Regal Grove? Why the sudden emergency?”

She let out a tense, humorless laugh. “Because if we’re even a second late, Ruben might come after us.”
At that precise moment, the study door burst open, slamming against the wall, and the old man stormed in, red-faced and panting with rage.
Cole looked up sharply. “Grandfather? What happened?”
Without warning, the old man struck him on the shoulder with his cane. “Useless idiot!”
There was nothing gentle about it. Cole winced in pain and rubbed the spot, managing a bitter smile. “What did I do to make you so angry?”
Ruben was breathing heavily, pointing a trembling finger close to his grandson’s face. “Elliana just called to inform me that Adah is definitely going to marry someone from the Shaw family, and she told me to abandon any hope of her marrying Lance. Then she had the nerve to hang up on me and block my number! Explain that to me — why?”
