Chapter 758
The man's temperature was far too high.
"Stewart?" Briony gently shook him.
Still drowsy, Stewart vaguely heard someone call his name and mumbled a response. Briony rolled over and placed a hand on his forehead. "Are you running a fever?"
Stewart slowly opened his eyes, his mind sluggish from the high temperature. He stared at Briony for a long moment before he understood. "A fever? Then stay away from me," he said, scooting back and turning away. "I don't want you to catch it."
Briony was speechless. Even while feeling so miserable himself, his first thought was not to infect her. Sighing, she got out of bed. After a quick wash, she pulled out her phone and dialed Kendal's number.
Kendal prescribed medication to Stewart and he took it. The effect was immediate; Stewart broke into a sweat, his fever subsided, and his mind cleared. Noticing the bandages on Stewart's fingers, Kendal took the opportunity to check the wound. It was inflamed. The gauze had gotten wet during his cold showers the night before. Kendal applied a special topical powder he had developed and re-wrapped the fingers lightly.
"This powder works for any external wound. You can keep it," Kendal said, setting the medicine down. "The inflammation isn't too severe. Your fever was from catching a chill."
Stewart shifted guiltily, glancing at Briony. Kendal wrote out a prescription for a few herbal remedies, and before leaving, he added a final piece of advice, "I know it's summer, but don't go taking cold showers."
Stewart froze.
After seeing Kendal out, Briony returned to the bedroom. Stewart was sitting up on the bed, his narrow eyes fixed on her. Briony walked over, her expression serious. "Stewart, be honest. Did you take a cold shower last night?"
Stewart cleared his throat. "I took one cold shower."
Briony raised an eyebrow. "Just one?"
Stewart lowered his gaze. "Two."
Briony announced coolly, "As soon as your fever is gone, you're moving back to the third floor."
Stewart's brow twitched. "Bryn, listen to me—"
"One more word and you can move back to Southcreek Manor."
"...I'll take the third floor. The third floor is great."
...
For his little stunt, Stewart earned himself a temporary exile to the guest room on the third floor. Briony's stance was firm: he was not allowed in her bedroom until his hand was fully healed. Stewart was tormented by longing but could only endure it.
Three days later, Stewart's cold and hand injury were much better.
Meanwhite, at Neonova Syndicate someone had heard that Xenia Cooper was bedridden causing turmoil in the stock market and panic throughout the company. Stewart had no choice but to go and take charge.
On Briony's side, several projects at Starlight Entertainment required her final decision. With both of them busy with their respective careers, the initial passion of their reunion was quickly tempered by work. For the next two weeks, Briony and Stewart both left early and came home late. They often only saw each other in the evening at Pearbrook Mansion. Sometimes, Stewart had business dinners and would come back so late that Briony was already asleep. If Briony was the one with a
