Chapter 299
Chapter 299:
Wendy raised her eyebrows, a spark of surprise in her expression. “You even caught that?”
Fernanda’s knack for details was nothing short of astonishing.
Fernanda explained, “Rafael bringing Ellis along wasn’t some casual decision. His intentions became pretty clear during the game session. Rafael is no novice at dice; he’s always able to make the numbers roll in his favor. He was trying to get me drunk, no doubt about it. Since that was his plan, I decided to play along and pretended to be drunk. Sometimes the only way to uncover the truth is by wading through the lies.”
Wendy chuckled and gave Fernanda’s waist a playful pinch. “I was wondering earlier. You’re so good at dice, yet you suddenly claimed you’d never played before. And I’ve seen you drink—those few glasses were nothing for you. Now it all makes sense. You had a plan all along.”
Feigning drunkenness, Fernanda had leaned on Wendy and told her to send Bobby a message, asking him to come over.
The scene was bound to turn into a spectacle, and having Bobby—her so-called fiancé—involved would add just the right flavor to the drama.
Wendy sent the message, and Bobby didn’t waste a second, hitting the road immediately.
With the roads nearly deserted at that late hour, he arrived in less than two hours.
Fernanda hadn’t expected Bobby to explode the way he did, punching Rafael into submission without so much as a warning.
“I thought Bobby didn’t know how to fight,” Fernanda mused, her tone casual but with a hint of amusement. “When he squared off against Rafael, I was genuinely worried he’d get hurt.”
Wendy’s expression flickered, darkening for just a heartbeat before returning to normal. Fernanda almost wondered if she’d imagined it.
“It’s a relief that you are fine,” Wendy said briskly. “Let’s get some sleep—it’s already late.”
Fernanda didn’t pry. Whatever history Wendy and Bobby had shared was theirs to tell or keep.

Later, lying in bed, Fernanda pulled out her phone and gazed at the recording of Rafael’s recounting of his schemes.
She had cleverly activated the recording feature while pretending to be asleep. When she heard the door creak open, she had sent a pre-written message to Wendy, who promptly came out of her room to catch Rafael and Ellis red-handed.
Following Fernanda’s earlier instructions, Wendy had also roped in Sloane under the pretense of playing a game, ensuring Sloane could help catch the culprits and later call Jeff.
Thinking back over the night’s carefully executed series of events, Wendy couldn’t help but marvel at Fernanda’s precision. Everything had gone off without a hitch.
Despite going to bed late, Fernanda and Wendy were up early, rising just after seven.
“Want to sleep a bit more?” Wendy asked, stifling a yawn. “We barely got three hours of shut-eye.”
“I’m fine,” Fernanda replied, sitting up.
Because she had so many obligations back in Zhota, she frequently slept for only three hours per night.
