True to her expectations, after some cursory inquiries about her academic life, Robert cut to the chase. “Fernanda, Curran’s birthday is soon, and we’ve been invited as a family. We’ll attend together. Tomorrow, why don’t you and your mother go dress shopping?” Fernanda faced Robert and offered a thoughtful smile. “My mother isn’t with us anymore.”
Michelle, emerging from the kitchen, came to a sudden halt at Fernanda’s words.

In Fernanda’s room lay clothes she had brought from Zhota, which Michelle had inspected and dismissed to Robert as basic, no-name garments, likely budget buys from a local mall. They were deemed unsuitable for an event as important as Curran’s birthday.
Concerned that Fernanda might not present well at the event, Robert resolved to ensure she was outfitted elegantly.
Fernanda offered no resistance to the plan, responding with a compliant, “Alright.”
The following day, as Fernanda was poised to leave with Michelle and Erika, Bobby unexpectedly showed up, declaring he would take Fernanda shopping himself.
