Chapter 522
Chapter 522:
Finally, Beckett realized the game he’d been caught in. Despite all the venom he’d thrown her way, Fernanda showed no signs of being affected.
The sound of sirens broke the tension as the police arrived. They swiftly intervened, pulling Beckett away from Fernanda’s grip.
“I didn’t want to step on him,” Fernanda said, her tone unexpectedly sincere as she addressed the officers. “I was just making sure he didn’t completely lose it, got it?” She tugged Bonita forward, her expression hardening. “Look at her face. This is all his doing.”
In the harsh glow of the streetlights, Bonita’s bruises stood out clearly, a silent testament to the chaos. As the officers led Beckett away, Fernanda and Bonita were asked to follow them to the station to give their statements.
On their way there, Bonita trembled uncontrollably. Her hands felt frozen, stiff as ice, and the cold wind stung the tear marks on her cheeks.
“Don’t worry, you’re safe now,” Fernanda murmured, pulling Bonita close and offering comfort.
Bonita leaned into Fernanda’s embrace, her body shaking as though the slightest breeze could blow her away. The thought of what might have happened if Fernanda hadn’t intervened filled her with dread. Could his rage have ended her life? She had no answers.
At the station, Bonita found it difficult to speak, her words tangled. After Fernanda shared what she had witnessed, the officers turned to Bonita, questioning her about Beckett’s reasons for targeting her. Bonita’s explanation made it clear: this was a dispute rooted in a troubled relationship.
The officers, familiar with such cases, explained that mediation was the only option they could offer.
“Mediation,” Bonita whispered, her voice shaky. “It’s always the same. He’ll just come after me again…”
Fernanda, not missing a beat, jumped in. “This isn’t new. Last time, he went wild and destroyed a restaurant’s window. You guys handled that, remember? You should check; he’s bound to have a record.”

The officers quickly ran a check based on the information Fernanda had provided. Sure enough, his past was there, glaring back at them.
“This guy’s quite a troublemaker,” one officer remarked, turning to his partner. “Get his family down here.”
“He mentioned his family is out of town.”
The officer slammed his hand on the table, frustration in his voice. “Even if they’re away, they should make time to come here. If we let him off the hook too easily, he’s likely to harm that girl again. Get his family in here, and make sure he gets a mental health evaluation.” His colleague immediately nodded in agreement.
The officer’s words sparked a thought in Fernanda’s mind. She leaned forward, curiosity in her voice. “If he truly has mental health issues, could he be sent to a psychiatric hospital?”
