Chapter 529:

“Just some business to attend to,” Cristian explained. “I plan to return later today.”

“Today?” Evie’s eyes grew wide with surprise. “That’s so soon! I was hoping to catch a flight with you back to Esaham.”

“You might consider leaving today as well, then.”

“But then I won’t get a chance to see my friends today!”

“That’s a shame,” Cristian said, his glance sympathetic yet firm. “It seems you’ll miss the same flight as me.”

Evie frowned. “Fine, I’ll give up my plan. Just let me know when you wrap up your business!” Patting Evie on the head, Cristian smiled. “Okay.”

As time was of the essence, Evie skipped the trip back to the Reed family’s estate. Instead, she asked the driver to leave her at the entrance to the business district.

“Just call me when you’re finished,” Evie said to Cristian as she stepped out of the vehicle. “Remember, I waited for you for a full hour outside the airport!”

“Alright.”

With Cristian’s assurance, Evie walked away quickly, making a phone call as she moved, her pace fast and her mind preoccupied. The car resumed its journey, and as it did, the smile on Cristian’s face gradually disappeared.

Settling back, he gazed through the window at the line of towering structures and then shut his eyes, concealing the intensity of his thoughts.

An hour passed before the car entered the expansive grounds of the Reed family’s estate.

The Reed family had made their mark in Litdence with a mansion that dwarfed the one where Curran’s recent birthday celebration had taken place in Esaham.

Driving through the main gate, they followed a path lined with evergreens. Despite the chill of winter, the trees thrived.

Further along, a garden of colorful flowers stretched out, some nestled within glass greenhouses, their brilliant hues vying for attention.

Cristian lowered the car window, and a wave of floral scents swept in, invigorating his senses.

The car passed several villas before slowing to a stop in front of a modest one.

Stepping out, Cristian’s shoes tapped quietly against the clean pavement. He raised his eyes to the small, elegant villa before him. The warmth in his look faded, replaced by a trace of frost, and his smile shifted to a sneer.

He pushed through the door, crossed the small courtyard, and entered the villa. Inside, a maid was tidying the living room and paused, looking puzzled to see him. She regained her composure swiftly and approached with enthusiasm.

“Sir, to what do we owe this pleasure?”

A gentle smile played on Cristian’s lips. “Is Nolan around?”
