“In the study,” the maid whispered.
With a nod, Cristian proceeded upstairs.
From behind, the maid lingered a moment, watching his departing silhouette before resuming her chores. Being the newest addition to the staff, she hadn’t yet met Cristian face-to-face. Fortunately, a photograph shown to her upon arrival had prepared her. Of all the Reed family members, he was by far the most striking.
Nolan had hired her to work at his villa, a quiet place where he mostly kept to himself, spending most of his time in his bedroom or study due to his frail health. Visitors were rare, and this was Cristian’s first appearance.
The maid thought it would be nice for someone to come and chat with Nolan.
Upon reaching the study, Cristian turned the door handle without hesitation.
“Shouldn’t you knock before barging in?” an irritated voice said from within. “Leave now!”
Ignoring the protest, Cristian stepped inside and quietly closed the door, a soft chuckle escaping him. “You’re as grumpy as always, Nolan.”
Caught off guard, Nolan turned around. His eyes narrowed as he spotted Cristian, his fingers tightening on the armrests of his wheelchair, his knuckles whitening.
“You… what are you doing here?” Nolan gasped, staring as Cristian advanced.
“I’ve missed you, that’s why I’m here,” Cristian said, standing over him with a steady gaze.
The intensity of Cristian’s stare made Nolan visibly uncomfortable, as if the weight of the moment was causing him to feel insignificant.
“Get out!” Nolan shouted. “How dare you trespass in my home? Get out before you sully it further!”
With that, he threw a thick book at Cristian.

With swift reflexes, Cristian caught the book and applied a slight squeeze, causing it to burst apart. The pages fluttered to the floor like fallen leaves.
Nolan’s eyes blazed with fury as he stared down Cristian. Despite his youthful appearance, with a round face that made him seem barely over twenty-three, his expression was anything but innocent. His long hair fell messily across his forehead, casting shadows over his intense eyes.
At twenty-seven, he could easily pass for someone much younger, if not for the anger twisting his features right now.
“You must know why I’m here,” Cristian said nonchalantly as he sauntered over to the sofa and plopped down as if he owned the place. “It’s been a while. Just thought I’d drop by and catch up.”
“I have nothing to say to you!” Nolan’s voice boomed, laden with anger. “Get out! And don’t you dare show your face here again!”
