Chapter 709
Chapter 709:
The mall, a recent addition to the area, had many vacant units on this floor. At this hour, the corridor was deserted, amplifying the echo of Sloane’s shout through the vast, empty space.
Levi offered a dismissive shrug paired with a wry grin. Given that he had ventured this far, he resolved to take advantage of the amenities available.
With a casual stride, he approached and flung open a stall door, only to be jolted into stillness.
Inside, entwined in a close embrace, were a man and a woman. Her back was to him, and the sight of her flawless, beautiful skin caught the light, almost glowing.
Startled by the intrusion, she turned around, her eyes meeting Levi’s in a fleeting mix of surprise and embarrassment. She gasped sharply and swiftly sought refuge in the man’s embrace.
The man, leaning nonchalantly against the wall, regarded Levi with a measured, cold gaze that seemed to pierce right through him, sending an involuntary shiver down Levi’s spine.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to interrupt,” Levi hastily apologized, his voice cracking slightly under the strain as he clapped the door shut with a thunderous crash.
Levi’s mind was a turbulent sea of confusion and mortification as he retreated swiftly, the echoes of his rapid footsteps mingling with his racing thoughts.
Just as he reached the corridor, Sloane burst forth, her eyes sparkling with mischievous delight. “Ha, you really dared to come out here!” she exclaimed, ready to fire off a teasing comment.
“Enough,” Levi cut her off sharply, his tone laced with exasperation. He grasped her arm more firmly than intended and hastened their departure, his movements brisk as if trying to physically outrun the lingering awkwardness of the encounter.
“Hey, you don’t get off that easily! I’m still going to—”
“Shhh!” With a swift tug, Levi pulled Sloane into the elevator.
Sloane, noticing the tension in Levi’s posture, couldn’t help but probe, “What’s up with you? Did you stumble upon a ghost in the restroom or something?”

It was far worse than any spectral encounter. The truth was even more unnerving.
Levi, still a bit naive and easily embarrassed by public displays of affection, was utterly unprepared for what he had witnessed in the restroom.
A couple, barely clothed, caught in a compromising situation—it was clear to anyone what they were engaged in.
And wasn’t the woman’s face vaguely familiar? It nagged at Levi, as if he’d seen her somewhere before.
“Hey, what’s going on with you?” Sloane’s voice broke through his reverie as she waved her hand in front of his face, trying to snap him back to reality.
They had exited the mall by then. It was late, and the glow from the advertising billboards cast a surreal light over everything. The streets hummed with the bustle of traffic, lights weaving together into a luminous stream.
Levi halted abruptly and pointed at a billboard up ahead. “Ah, it’s her!” he exclaimed, his voice a mixture of shock and recognition.
Sloane’s gaze followed his pointing finger, her brow furrowing in confusion. “Wait, that’s Hertha, right? What’s the deal with her?” She had never quite shaken off the sour taste left by Hertha’s deceitful tactics against Fernanda during the school beauty pageant. Her disdain for Hertha was deep-seated.
