Chapter 810
Chapter 810:
Kevin felt a mix of relief and discomfort at her words.
“What exactly should he understand?” Kevin asked, his voice awkward. “That you and I barely connect, whereas you and he share a close bond? That he will always be more important to you than I am?”
Fernanda was puzzled by Kevin’s reaction. “Why are you making comparisons?”
Kevin sprang up suddenly, his face flushing with anger. “I’m not comparing anyone!” he snapped, glaring at Fernanda. “Don’t read too much into it. Your relationships are none of my concern!” With those words, Kevin stormed off into the mansion.
Left alone, Fernanda could only marvel at his sudden flare-up. She laughed lightly to herself and shook her head.
Upon Kevin’s entrance through the front door, Selma, lounging on the sofa, greeted him cheerfully. “Look who’s here, our birthday boy! But why the long face? What’s got you down?”
Following Kevin inside, Fernanda caught Selma’s accusing look. It was clear Selma thought she was the cause of Kevin’s mood.
As he began to ascend the stairs, Kevin called back, “Grandma, it’s nothing serious. Just the heat outside bothering me.”
Selma’s expression softened at his explanation.
It had been a while since Fernanda last visited the Morgan estate, and the reunion felt somewhat strange.
Michelle was the first to approach Fernanda warmly. “Have you been keeping busy lately?” she asked with a smile.
“It’s manageable,” Fernanda responded.
Selma interjected with a teasing complaint, “Of course, she’s been busy. Didn’t her team win the competition? Champions aren’t just ordinary people, after all.”
Selma had previously hoped Fernanda would have her team step aside to let Kevin’s team win the competition, but Fernanda hadn’t complied, which had annoyed Selma greatly.

Fernanda flashed a proud smile. “Exactly! This is nothing like what ordinary people experience. I mean, who else wins a championship on their very first try? We’re incredible!”
“Well, just don’t get too ahead of yourself,” Selma retorted. “Remember, young ladies should prioritize their education over chasing fame. You’re not a celebrity.”
“Why strive for so much attention?” Selma’s longstanding disapproval of Fernanda was evident, as she found fault with almost everything Fernanda did.
Fernanda, her smile steady, addressed Selma, “I might indeed falter someday, but it’s uncertain whether you’ll be around to see it. There’s a tale from my village about a man who died at 30 because he meddled too much in others’ affairs. He was killed for his intrusiveness, and no one pitied him. Interfering can be more harmful than being deceitful, don’t you think?”
The moment Selma understood what Fernanda was implying, fury flared in her eyes. “Watch your mouth! Are you trying to curse me?” She then turned to Robert, bitterly complaining, “Your daughter is going way too far by talking back to me like that!”
