Fernanda tilted her head slightly, her smile unwavering. “You don’t need to worry about my boyfriend; I will take good care of him.”

That smile—so serene, so confident—set Jordyn’s blood ablaze. For the first time, envy coiled around her insides like a serpent, tightening its grip.

Bitter jealousy surged from the depths of her soul, a force so consuming it nearly drowned her, nearly shattered every last thread of restraint she had left.

Jordyn couldn’t recall how she left the hospital. By the time she came to her senses, she realized she was on the airport bus.

As night began to envelop the city, the repetitive advertisements on the bus grated on her nerves. The dim glow of streetlights flickered through the window, casting shadows across her face.

Confusion clouded her thoughts as she questioned why she had been unable to win Cristian’s heart despite their long-standing friendship, while Fernanda had managed to do so.

Jordyn couldn’t fathom how Cristian had fallen for Fernanda so swiftly, considering his recent acquaintance with her. Cristian was not typically one to be led by his emotions, which puzzled Jordyn even further.

Her phone buzzed, drawing her attention to a project report from her advisor.

Her thesis had consumed much of her time recently, leaving little room for other concerns. Yet, she had dropped everything to be by Cristian’s side after hearing of his accident.

In the past, whenever Cristian fell ill abroad, Jordyn had been his constant, providing steadfast support.

She had always been there, understanding his complex family dynamics and his essential solitude, believing she would become his support.

Jordyn had hoped her continuous care would make him reliant on her.

Now, however, he seemed to have no need for her.

Taking a deep breath, she closed the conversation with her advisor and went to Curran’s social media. She scrolled through his posts and noticed that his latest one was about looking for an eligible man for a fantastic woman he knew.

Opening the chat box, she stared at the screen, her mind racing.

A sudden thought struck her. If Curran were aware of Cristian and Fernanda’s relationship, he might disapprove.

Could Curran influence their relationship somehow? And if so, might that open a door for her?

The thought energized Jordyn, filling her with a surge of excitement.
