Chapter 846
Chapter 846:
In his time, Jett had encountered many ruthless people, but this young man before him made his skin crawl in ways he couldn’t explain.
He was in this mess because of Cristian, but there was nothing he could do about it.
Fernanda slipped her hand into Cristian’s, giving a gentle shake of her head to show that Jett’s words, though hurtful, had no effect on her.
Whether he called her a hypocrite or not, it didn’t matter.
“You are really pathetic, Mr. Ramirez. Even now, when you’re behind bars, you still haven’t realized your mistake, nor are you penitent. You’d rather blame others for your misfortune. You’ve lost your conscience to greed. What a shame!”
Jett stood up in a rage, ready to rush at Fernanda, but the glass walls kept him contained.
Fernanda sneered at him and, with a voice as cold as ice, said, “Bonita is just a minor cause of your downfall. You are the main cause of it. I don’t expect someone like you to feel remorse for what you’ve done. I’m happy you’ll finally rot in here.”
She slowly approached the glass wall and whispered, “You’ll never see your son again. There are rumors of strange things happening in mental hospitals. Who’s to say your son won’t fall victim to such an unfortunate event?”
Jett’s eyes widened, as though they might fall out of his head. “Don’t you dare harm my son. I’ll make you pay if you do!” he roared.
Fernanda smiled, clearly enjoying Jett’s discomfort. “Make me pay, huh? What will you do, if I may ask?”
Jett lashed out, frustrated by his own incompetence.
Fernanda’s contemptuous question, however, stripped the last shred of confidence from within him.
What else could he do? What other options did he have?
He was locked up here. His trusted aides had all been arrested, and his past misdeeds had been exposed.

He was pretty much done for. This was the end for him.
“Make the most of your remaining days here,” Fernanda said, her voice devoid of emotion.
With that, she took Cristian’s hand and turned to leave.
Cristian turned to her and could tell from the stiffness in her body that something was wrong.
He gently stroked her hair and asked, “What’s wrong?”
While she had been talking to Jett, Cristian had noticed that she was genuinely angry. He knew Fernanda was usually calm and rarely lost her composure.
Once they were outside the detention center, Fernanda looked up at the sky. It was October, so although the sun wasn’t as hot as before, it was still bright enough to make her squint.
“The day before yesterday, when I went to buy breakfast, I ran into a young girl. She was sitting on the steps outside the hospital, crying bitterly. Trying to help, I approached her and asked her what was wrong. She told me her grandmother was deathly ill, and they couldn’t afford to continue treatment and had to leave the hospital. Her grandmother was her only family. I asked about the whereabouts of her parents, and she said her father had been beaten to death by local thugs a few years ago over a land dispute. Her mother was unable to appeal because of the corruption in Zenithium. In the end, they got no compensation and were left burdened with debt from filing the lawsuit. This led her mother to commit suicide.”
