Chapter 871:

She vaguely recalled meeting Rafael at the airport when she went to Zenithium to find Cristian. Rafael had even apologized to her. The details were blurry in her mind, but she was fairly sure he had apologized.

Did he want to make peace with her?

They soon arrived at the school gate, and Fernanda attempted to hail a taxi. However, Rafael stopped her and asked, “Where are you heading? Let me drop you off.”

Fernanda was about to refuse when a car suddenly pulled up in front of them.

The door opened, and Hector stepped out.

“What do you want with my sister?” he asked, his hostility toward Rafael palpable.

“You’ve got it wrong. I’m not trying to stir up trouble. I just wanted to ask some questions…” Rafael explained.

“What answers could she possibly have for you?” Hector sneered.

It was clear he didn’t believe Rafael.

Rafael was powerless against Hector’s hostility.

Fernanda gently tugged at Hector’s sleeve and gave Rafael an apologetic look.

Rafael took this as his cue and dejectedly walked away.

“Did you come to see me?” Fernanda asked, turning to Hector.

Hector nodded and said, “We have guests at home, so Dad asked me to come pick you up.”

Fernanda sneered. She had no interest in Robert’s guests. “Who are they?” she asked.

“Relatives of your mother.”

At those words, the smile on Fernanda’s lips immediately disappeared.

As they got into the car, Ector glanced at Fernanda and asked, “Rafael wasn’t really out for trouble, was he?”

“Not at all,” Fernanda replied, her tone light. “He’s mellowed out towards me.” She wasn’t sure what had finally made him see the light, but it was rather amusing.

“Rafael claimed Ava was being monitored abroad, that it was wrecking her mental state, and he came to ask if I had a hand in it,” Fernanda explained.

Ector kept driving, his expression unreadable. After a pause, he said, “You wouldn’t bother with something like that.”

The approaching headlights were as deep and serene as a nighttime ocean, shining into Ector’s eyes.

Fernanda turned her gaze to the window, watching the cityscape blur past. After a beat, she asked, “And what exactly is my relationship with the guests at home?”

“One of them is your uncle—your mother’s older brother.”

Fernanda sifted through her memories but found no trace of any uncle. Yet, something about it felt strangely familiar, as if she could almost reach out and touch the recognition.

Upon stepping into the Morgans’ house, her eyes immediately landed on a group of strangers seated on the sofa.
