Chapter 885
Chapter 885:
He vowed, then and there, that he would work even harder. He would never let her face injustice again, never let her feel abandoned.
A knock at the door broke the moment. Room service had arrived.
The staff set down an elegant spread—steaming dishes and a bottle of red wine—on the round table by the large windows.
Fernanda hadn’t felt hungry earlier, but the aroma of the food awakened her appetite. She ended up eating more than she expected.
She figured the main reason was Cristian. As she sat across from him, looking as effortlessly handsome as ever, he somehow made everything feel better. Even food tasted better when he was there.
Being with him just felt right.
Cristian barely ate, mostly focused on making sure she did. He leaned back in his chair, his tie loosened, the top buttons of his shirt undone, exposing the smooth lines of his collarbone. The sharp angles of his jaw and neck stood out in the dim hotel lighting.
He narrowed his eyes at her and said, “I’ll go to the memorial service with you tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Fernanda replied.
They were known as business partners, so it wouldn’t seem strange for him to attend her grandmother’s memorial. Cristian understood her reasoning. He clicked his tongue and added, “I want to go as your boyfriend.”
Fernanda’s hand paused mid-air, and she set down her fork. Cristian met her gaze. “Let’s make it official, okay?” He wanted their relationship out in the open. He wanted everyone to know she wasn’t alone.
Then, he saw her smile. In her gentle voice, she said, “Okay.”
Fernanda woke early the next morning. Heavy curtains shielded her from the morning light, but as she drew them open, a snowy landscape greeted her. Snow had fallen through the night, leaving the streets muddy and flanked by untouched drifts. In the distance, rooftops were adorned with thick layers of white, their brilliance making her squint.
Behind her, Cristian stirred on the bed. Turning around, Fernanda saw him sitting up, the blanket pooled around his waist, displaying his muscular torso. The only drawback was the fresh wound on his shoulder, which slightly marred his charm.

Her phone vibrated with a text from Martin inquiring about Macie. Fernanda wasn’t surprised; Martin had been close to Gracie, making his acquaintance with Macie expected. She responded quickly, and Martin texted back, promising to send condolences. Knowing well that condolences typically meant a formal arrangement of flowers, Fernanda thanked him politely.
After breakfast, shortly past eight, Toby sent the address of the graveyard. She and Cristian took a taxi there. The graveyard was bustling, mainly with members of the Cooper family. As they approached the entrance, Cristian’s phone rang with a work-related call. Fernanda whispered, “Take your call. I’ll go in first. Let me know when you’re finished.” Cristian nodded slightly.
