Chapter 887
Chapter 887:
“It just wasn’t a good fit,” Fernanda said with a smile. “So the engagement was called off.”
Yet to Jade, this seemed like a pretense to preserve dignity. In her eyes, Fernanda must have been rejected! Claiming it wasn’t a good fit was merely a face-saving excuse. Jade’s contempt for Fernanda deepened.
About twenty minutes later, Fernanda saw Cristian at the entrance and signaled for him to come over. As he walked up, Jade’s eyes brightened. He was strikingly handsome. Tall with a polished demeanor and a face as appealing as any celebrity’s, there was an underlying wildness to him.
When Cristian stopped before Fernanda, Jade couldn’t contain her curiosity.
“Fernanda, is this your friend?”
“Yes,” Fernanda replied simply.
“Then introduce us!” Jade exclaimed, looping her arm through Fernanda’s and extending her other hand toward Cristian. “Hello, I’m Jade Miller.”
Cristian gave her a brief look. “Hello,” he said politely, though he didn’t take her offered hand.
Jade had already taken a mental note of Cristian. She couldn’t identify the brand of his suit, but it screamed luxury. His overall presence led her to conclude he must be a well-to-do bachelor.
“Esaham seems like a treasure trove. It must be teeming with eligible bachelors!” Jade made a mental note to apply to a university there after her upcoming college entrance exams.
Fernanda inquired about Cristian’s earlier phone call from Amory, asking if there had been an issue at work.
“Just wrapping up two projects. I delegated them to another director. There’s…”
“No cause for concern,” Cristian explained.

“I recall you were in the midst of fundraising. Was that connected to the two ongoing projects?” Fernanda asked.
Cristian nodded, and the two delved into a discussion about work.
Jade felt out of her depth but noticed they didn’t seem particularly intimate. She reasoned that this man must be just a casual acquaintance of Fernanda’s since they didn’t seem very close.
Unbeknownst to her, Cristian was simply maintaining a respectful demeanor—they were at a funeral, after all.
Jade tried to chime in but found no suitable moment. When there was a brief lull, she blurted out, “You’re so impressive, sir!”
Fernanda observed quietly, curious to see how Cristian would react to Jade’s obvious flattery.
“Fernanda is more impressive than I am,” Cristian responded earnestly. “When I was her age, I was nowhere near where she is now.”
