Chapter 889
Chapter 889:
Being so bluntly criticized by someone as charming as Cristian left her embarrassed and humiliated. Her cheeks turned red, and tears began to form in her eyes.
Just then, more people arrived to offer their condolences, and Jade didn’t hold back her tears, overwhelmed by Cristian’s blunt words.
Those who saw her weeping assumed she was mourning her grandmother. After managing visitors all morning, it wasn’t until noon that Toby had a chance to speak with Fernanda.
Toby had noticed Cristian the moment he arrived—his presence was undeniable. Standing there, he was distinctly noticeable.
At first, Toby thought Cristian was merely a friend of Fernanda’s who had come to offer his condolences. However, as he observed him lingering by her side all morning, his curiosity was piqued.
Toby grew curious about Cristian’s connection to Fernanda.
“Who is this gentleman?” Toby inquired, glancing at Fernanda.
Holding Fernanda’s hand, Cristian extended his other hand to Toby. “Nice to meet you. I’m Fernanda’s boyfriend.”
Toby was surprised but quickly managed to shake Cristian’s hand. Meanwhile, Jade’s eyes widened, filled with disbelief.
Was he really Fernanda’s boyfriend? How was that possible? Was it merely Fernanda’s charm that had attracted him?
Jade believed Fernanda had nothing to offer but her looks.
“Fernanda, did you break off your engagement with the Harpers because of him?” Jade asked, her curiosity evident.
Fernanda shot Jade a quick, sharp glance. “What’s with the curiosity?”

“I’m just looking out for you! Is that so wrong?”
“Fernanda, Jade is merely curious. She meant no harm,” Felipa interjected, gently placing a hand on Jade’s shoulder. “Focus on your own issues. Fernanda’s private life is her own.”
“I feel bad for Fernanda! She missed out on a huge opportunity. That engagement could have secured her a life of wealth…”
“This is Grandma’s memorial, Jade. What are you aiming to achieve here?” Fernanda interjected with a sharp tone. “You’ve been prying into my affairs since I arrived. Are you here to mourn, or just to stir trouble?”
Jade’s expression became tense.
Felipa suggested to Jade, “Try to avoid topics that might upset others, alright?”
Jade was so upset she almost choked. She had never liked Fernanda—not from their first encounter. It wasn’t so much hatred as it was jealousy.
When Jade first heard about the cousin who had disappeared and then reappeared, she imagined a simple, unrefined girl from a rural area. Yet, Fernanda was nothing of the sort. She was stunning, composed, and carried herself with an air of confidence that Jade could only envy.
