Chapter 910
Chapter 910:
Relieved, Diana calmed down. About twenty minutes later, she left the office, her tears replaced by a hopeful smile. Several administrators had already shared the link to the fundraiser. Diana believed that with their influence, donations would come flooding in. She checked her phone and watched in amazement as the total climbed rapidly. It started from a few thousand dollars to over twenty thousand. Exiting the building, Diana saw Wendy by a trash can, taking a smoke break. Wendy looked up with a frosty stare, took a few hurried drags, then crushed the cigarette underfoot and tossed it in the trash.
“Finished with your performance?” Wendy asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm, as sharp as the cold wind around them. Diana pocketed her phone and frowned at her daughter.
“Wendy, you’ve really disappointed me,” she said sternly.
Wendy just sneered in response.
Diana continued, “How can you be so selfish, so cold? I sent you to school, and this is how you turn out? If only I had known…”
“Stop right there.” Wendy interrupted her, raising her hand. “You didn’t send me to school. I earned my place on my own merits. And I worked part-time to pay for high school. I didn’t take a single penny from you, so don’t act like you’re my benefactor.”
The guilt and discomfort Wendy had felt days earlier disappeared the moment she saw Diana at the school. She had been prepared to help, but Diana’s decision to involve the school without considering the consequences showed her true priorities.
To Diana, Wendy was secondary—her own needs and her new family were what mattered.
Diana was livid, struggling to find words, her chest heaving with anger as she pointed accusingly at Wendy.
The cold wind pulled at Wendy’s clothes. She adjusted her beanie lower over her forehead, casting shadows over her eyes and darkening her expression. “Since everything’s settled, I’m out of here,” Wendy declared, turning to leave. “And don’t bother coming to me for anything in the future. Handle it yourself.”
Diana exploded with rage. The pent-up frustration and cold indifference from the past few days erupted. She began to yell and curse, pointing furiously at Wendy.

Fortunately, it was lunchtime, and not many students were around to witness their altercation.
Wendy slipped on her earphones and hastened her pace, drowning out Diana’s angry words.
As she approached the school gate, she encountered Bobby. He was lounging against a car, scanning the surroundings. Spotting Wendy, he greeted her with an enthusiastic wave.
But Bobby’s smile disappeared when he noticed the woman approaching behind Wendy. Diana also saw Bobby, and her anger intensified. She stormed up to Wendy, yanked the earphones from her ears, and shouted, “Why are you still involved with him?”
