Chapter 917
Chapter 917:
Bobby gave a slow nod. “She was my first love. I haven’t been able to move on from her.” Through the years, he’d met many women, but none had ever come close to Wendy.
What had drawn him to her was her inner strength, the way she fought through everything life threw at her.
“I know her family’s a mess,” Bobby said quietly. “Back in high school, I could tell she never had the comfort of a real family. I promised myself I would give her one. Those words have stuck with me all these years.”
His gaze lifted to the windshield, watching the snowflakes fall gently. His voice remained firm.
“I’m going to give her a family, a real one. No matter what it takes.”
Fernanda felt a surge of happiness for Wendy when she heard what Bobby had said. She was certain Bobby was a man of his word, his sincerity towards Wendy clear and unwavering. Love, after all, is about seeking a bond that resonates, about being partners through every challenge. If someone couldn’t handle the ups and downs, discussing a lifetime together would be premature.
“Wendy will know,” Fernanda said. “Look at her: she hasn’t been in a relationship for quite a while. You’ve still got a shot.”
Bobby inhaled deeply, his hands tightening on the steering wheel. Indeed, she had been single, presenting him with an opportunity. Yet, his fear loomed large—fear that she might retreat in alarm and distance herself as she had before, rendering all his efforts fruitless. Since their reunion, he had painstakingly chipped away at the walls she’d built around herself. He was determined not to let her close off again.
The Harpers’ house radiated warmth, a stark contrast to the snowy winter outside. It felt as if one had leapt from the depths of winter’s chill into the embrace of a warm spring day.
Judie lounged on the living room sofa, absorbed in a magazine. She wore a pure white sweater and soft pants, her posture relaxed and languid. Opposite her, Cristian sat casually poking at a bowl of blueberries with a fork. The sound of the door caused Cristian to look up, and an involuntary smile graced his lips when he spotted Bobby and Fernanda.
Feeling a gaze, he turned to see Judie still pretending to read, though her eyes were fixed on him. Their eyes met briefly, and after two seconds, Judie snorted. “Didn’t expect you to be this much of a fool for love.”

Cristian touched his nose awkwardly and then waved at Fernanda.
Fernanda approached and greeted Judie first. “Hello, Mrs. Harper.”
Judie grunted in acknowledgment without lifting her eyes from the magazine.
“Are you cold?” Cristian asked, pinching Fernanda’s face playfully.
She wasn’t cold. The heater in Bobby’s car had been on full blast. Even with the windows slightly open, letting in some of the chill, the car’s interior remained toasty.
