Chapter 918:

Fernanda leaned back to dodge Cristian’s hand, shooting a glance toward Judie, signaling him to moderate his behavior in front of his aunt.

Ignoring her cautionary look, Cristian smiled, held her hand, and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. He then picked up a blueberry he had been toying with and urged, “Open up.”

Fernanda preferred to eat with her hands, but Cristian insisted on feeding her. She wondered why he was acting this way, especially in front of Judie. Was he trying to make Judie think even less of her?

Glancing at Judie, she quickly opened her mouth and accepted the blueberry. It burst with a refreshing, sweet flavor.

Fernanda reached for the bowl, but Judie’s cold laugh made her hand retract reflexively. It wasn’t out of fear, just an instinctive reaction.

She had no reason to fear and generally disliked worrying about such things. Yet, considering Judie was Cristian’s aunt and a respected elder who had always been kind to him, Fernanda held her in high regard.

Cristian leaned forward, causing the fabric of his sweater to stretch across his shoulder. He handed her the bowl of blueberries.

“Just eat,” Judie said, still not looking up. “Cristian saved them especially for you, guarding them like treasure, worried we’d eat them all.” With that, she shot Cristian a glare.

Bobby could confirm this. When Cristian had arrived earlier, he had brought two boxes of blueberries. He had carefully selected the largest and most flawless for the bowl, leaving the less perfect ones for everyone else.

Bobby had argued fiercely about the perceived unfairness and promised to reclaim some blueberries from that bowl upon his return. However, the argument with Wendy’s mother drained his spirits. Now sitting next to Judie, Bobby looked utterly defeated.

Judie, rarely seeing her vibrant son so disheartened, couldn’t resist asking, “What’s wrong? Upset by their public display of affection?”

In response, Bobby ran his fingers through his hair, his mood darkening further. Judie placed her magazine on the coffee table, picked up her coffee, and took a gentle sip.

Noticing the page Judie had been perusing, Fernanda leaned forward to see it better. Quickly, Judie flipped the magazine into Fernanda’s lap.

“Don’t strain yourself. Take a closer look,” Judie commented as she continued sipping her coffee.

Fernanda examined the magazine cover, which featured the latest seasonal fashion from various designers and the upcoming trends. The page that had caught Judie’s interest showcased an array of dresses.

Unmistakably, these were designs from Gibson’s Dress Shop. Fernanda recalled a conversation earlier in the year with Jalen, who mentioned he would be leasing a large storefront and planned to open it by the end of the year after renovations. He had promised to give her a tour.
