Chapter 919:

She had not anticipated that the store would not only expand but also make it into fashion magazines. Their growth had been impressive.

“The dresses from that store are quite popular among us,” Judie noted.

Fernanda knew Judie was referring to their group of fashionable, discerning women. Since Judie had first seen Fernanda in one of their dresses, she had become a steadfast customer at Gibson’s Dress Shop. The shop’s rapid expansion was largely thanks to the patronage from their elite circle.

Fernanda was genuinely thankful to Judie. Her promotion had been a huge boost to the shop’s popularity.

Anticipating Fernanda’s words of gratitude, Judie halted her with a raised hand. “Don’t thank me. The credit goes to their well-crafted clothes. The quality and style are spot on. I hardly did anything.”

She glanced at the wall clock and gently nudged Bobby with her foot. “Go tell your dad dinner’s ready.”

Bobby got up leisurely and made his way upstairs. Judie headed to the dining room first. From a distance, Fernanda heard her inquire, “Tammy, have you prepared the collagen-rich supplement I asked for?”

“It’s ready, Madam,” Tammy Clifford responded promptly.

“Bring me two bowls.”

By the time Fernanda arrived, a bowl filled with the supplement was already waiting for her.

“It’s beneficial for the skin,” Judie commented. “It’s crucial to take care of yourself while you’re young. If you wait until you want to look youthful when you’re older, it’ll be too late.”

Fernanda nodded, took her seat, and began to eat. Despite the normalcy, something felt off. Judie seemed unusually warm towards her today, yet it wasn’t entirely genuine.

Fernanda looked over at Cristian, seeking answers with a glance, but he only offered a smile, choosing to remain silent.

Footsteps resounded from the living room as Martin descended the stairs. He looked like he had just paused his work, still massaging his forehead, a visible tiredness etched between his brows.

The dining table was set for five, but Evie was missing.

“Where’s Evie?” Fernanda asked out of concern.

“She’s back at school,” Judie replied.

Evie was pursuing an accelerated dual-degree program overseas that would see her complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just four years, with her graduation slated for the following year. She had extended her current stay due to a special opportunity at an art academy, which added a few more months to her timeline.

“Evie chose not to tell you about her departure to spare you the pain of a farewell, Fernanda,” Bobby shared from across the table. “She claimed separating from me was bearable, but the thought of your farewell at the airport would bring her to tears, so she decided against a goodbye.”
