Rosalie felt relieved that she had rejected his earlier proposal. Had she agreed, it seemed certain that Theo would be the first to betray them at the sign of any serious threat.

Her contempt for the collateral relatives of the Campbell family intensified. She now saw clearly that their only interest was in pursuing profit by the easiest means, devoid of any genuine skill.

Although anger was her predominant emotion, a tinge of nervousness lingered in Rosalie’s mind.

She was aware that Liam was one of the sons of the leader of the local Black Dragon Gang and had no ties to the Axe Gang, responsible for the previous day’s disturbances.

She pondered privately, wondering if Liam’s appearance at the construction site was an attempt to extort money. Or perhaps he was still harboring resentment from their last encounter at the campsite.

Rosalie couldn’t shake off a feeling of apprehension. She subtly readied her phone, poised to contact the police should the need arise.

Deciding Theo had suffered enough, Liam gestured to his crew to stop their aggression.

Continuing to assault Theo might bring unwanted complications for Ashton.

Theo was oblivious to Liam’s actual agenda. He believed that his desperate appeals had been effective.

Although he was heavily injured, Theo managed to pick himself up and started ingratiating himself with Liam.

“Liam, your timing couldn’t be better. I assume you’re informed about the recent issues here. My cousin lacks the necessary toughness. It would be far more secure for her to entrust the funds to your Black Dragon Gang, rather than to those gangsters from out of town.”

After speaking, Theo glanced mockingly at Ashton and sneered,

“You…”

“You claimed your workers were on their way. Where are they now? Did they flee at the sight of Liam’s men?”

Ashton responded with a faint smile, “They’re already here.”

Upon hearing this, Theo stretched his neck to look outside and scoffed, “Where are they then? Call them in! I want to see the idiots brave enough to show up and work here!”

Already annoyed, Liam struck Theo across the face upon hearing his words.

Theo was already suffering from prior injuries. He grimaced in pain from the slap. Knowing better than to retaliate against Liam, he refrained from fighting back. Feeling deeply wronged and perplexed, he couldn’t grasp why he was always the one being assaulted.

Seizing Theo by the hair, Liam growled, “I’m the idiot who’s come to work here. You have an issue with that?”

At Liam’s declaration, everyone but Ashton was taken aback.
