Observing their astonished faces, Liam shoved Theo aside and approached Rosalie.
His expression grew gentler as he smiled at her and said, “Miss Campbell, I heard some gangsters from out of town were stirring trouble here. We’ve come to help out. We’re free and willing to volunteer. As long as it’s simple tasks, just let us know what you need, and we’ll handle it.”
Rosalie held her phone tightly, ready to call the police at any moment, her mind alert and cautious. Liam’s words left her completely baffled, and she couldn’t help but wonder if these were the very individuals Ashton had mentioned as potential help.
Her gaze shifted to Ashton, searching for answers. She had initially thought Ashton was bringing in workers he knew, but now, with Liam and his gang in front of her, confusion took over.
Ashton had not intended to have Liam and his group work at the site. It was Liam who had offered his services, and Ashton had reluctantly agreed. Now, Ashton found himself at a loss for words, unsure how to explain the situation to Rosalie. He glanced at Liam, silently indicating that he should provide an explanation.
Liam, catching Ashton’s subtle signal, hesitated. Quick thinking had never been his strong suit. After a few moments of contemplation, he finally spoke.
“Miss Campbell,” Liam began, offering a smile, “do you remember the incident in the southern suburbs some time ago? I thought my end was near, but Mr. Baldwin saved me indirectly. After that, when I got home, I reflected on my life. I realized I had been wasting it before I met Mr. Baldwin. He opened my eyes to the value of life, and he’s become a mentor to me. That’s why I decided to change my ways and strive to be a better, more honest man. I want to repay Mr. Baldwin for his kindness. So, when I heard about your difficulties, I directed my men to come and help you.”
Ashton couldn’t help but laugh at Liam’s awkward attempt at an explanation. He could tell that some parts of Liam’s story were at least partially true.
“Why not take advantage of their willingness to help?” Ashton suggested to Rosalie. “They can handle the heavy lifting and move materials. With me around, they won’t dare to cause any trouble.”

Rosalie paused, considering Ashton’s words. After a brief moment, she nodded in agreement. Given the Black Dragon Gang’s reputation in the area, she assumed they would understand the importance of the Campbell family and Skyline Group’s influence.
After giving it some thought, Rosalie decided, “I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt this time, because of Ashton. But be ready, the amount of work here is substantial. If you agree to stay, we’ll provide food, lodging, and a daily wage of 200 dollars.”
Theo inwardly sneered at the offer. In Inewood, the typical daily pay for laborers was 300 dollars, and it could rise to 400 dollars for major projects. He had planned to ask Rosalie for a daily wage of 500 dollars himself.
In Theo’s estimation, since Liam claimed they were here to assist, they would likely make only a short appearance and leave within a couple of days. He found it amusing how naive Rosalie seemed. He thought to himself how she genuinely believed that Liam and his crew would be willing to stay and work for such a modest wage. To him, it seemed almost like an affront to Liam and the Black Dragon Gang. Perhaps this would soon lead to a rift between Liam and her.
