Chapter 347
Chapter 347:
A playful smile tugged at the corners of Ashton’s lips, his eyebrows arching with mild amusement.
He had no intention of letting these petty squabbles ruin his mood, especially not on a day that held so much significance. But it seemed Duane, Vivian, and their little entourage were hell-bent on forcing his hand. It looked like he’d have to meet this so-called underworld king after all.
Judging by Duane’s words, Ashton had a pretty good idea of who this underworld king might be.
And sure enough, as if on cue, Duane’s backer, Liam, arrived. To Ashton’s surprise, Liam wasn’t alone. His old friend Isaac was with him.
The timing of their simultaneous arrival was too coincidental to be mere chance.
Liam had thought he would be dealing with just another minor nuisance, but when his eyes landed on Ashton, his expression darkened like a storm cloud gathering on the horizon.
“Liam, look at him!” Duane blurted out. “He’s so full of himself, acting like he’s above everyone else. On a day like this, he dares to make trouble and disrespect you!”
Duane did his best to cast Ashton in a bad light, savoring the idea that Ashton was caught in a tight spot.
If Ashton were to swallow his pride and kneel, admitting his mistakes, then Duane could walk away satisfied, knowing his efforts to aid Celia had achieved their desired effect.
But if Ashton held his ground, he’d be staring down the barrel of Liam’s fury—a force that could easily wipe him out.
But Duane’s supposedly flawless plan unraveled faster than a ball of yarn in a cat’s paws.

Just as Duane finished his words, Liam’s hand lashed out, delivering a swift, stinging slap across Duane’s face.
Liam didn’t hold back as he scolded him, “I accepted you as a lackey simply because you were willing to spend money to win me over. You really like being the tough guy, don’t you? How dare you try to sow discord between my boss and me!”
Duane’s eyes widened in shock. He barely registered the sting on his cheek; all he could feel was a deep, bone-chilling fear.
This wasn’t just any man—this was his backer’s boss.
How could he have been so foolish as to challenge someone so far out of his league?
“Liam, I had no idea he was your boss! I would never have dared to speak like that if I had known!” Duane stammered, his voice quivering with fear.
If there were a way to rewind time, Duane would desperately seize the moment before he ever crossed paths with Ashton.
Regret gnawed at him, each bite more bitter than the last, especially now that Vivian, Celia, and the others had vanished the moment Liam referred to Ashton as his boss.
