Chapter 425
Chapter 425:
Vincent Lee, director of the Staville Department of Commerce, had just received instructions from a higher-up and was nervously strategizing how to receive Ashton when his phone unexpectedly rang.
Glancing at the screen, he recognized the number that had been highlighted by the higher-up.
Feeling the urgency of the situation, Vincent answered promptly, prepared to engage in small talk. However, a cold voice interrupted him.
“Did Ennis inform you that someone would be visiting today?”
Ashton wasted no time getting to the point.
Vincent quickly replied, “Yes, is this Mr. Ashton Baldwin?”
Without answering the question, Ashton continued,
“One of your staff members claimed I wasn’t eligible to meet with you. I’m giving you three minutes to come down here and meet me in person!”
Before Vincent could respond, Ashton hung up.
Panic set in as Vincent broke out in a cold sweat. His subordinate had managed to offend the special agent before he even had the chance to introduce himself.
Just moments ago, the higher-up had emphasized the importance of fully cooperating with Ashton’s mission, and now one of his staff members had already created a significant issue.
If this situation escalated, Vincent would be in serious trouble.
Without waiting for the elevator, he sprinted down the stairs.
Meanwhile, Effie remained blissfully unaware of the looming disaster. Watching Ashton speak so bluntly on the phone, she couldn’t help but sneer and provoke him further.

“Your performance is decent, but you’re not exactly sharp. Do you even know who you’re dealing with? Even if you somehow got through to our director, what makes you think he’ll come down in three minutes?”
Ashton, uninterested in her taunts, simply turned away.
To Effie, this dismissal only reinforced her belief in his guilt.
Not wanting to waste another moment on this nuisance, she grabbed the partially filled form Ashton had submitted and began typing furiously on her computer, planning to blacklist him.
However, when she checked the information Ashton provided, she was taken aback. The official system only displayed his name, while everything else was marked as unknown.
It turned out that Vincent, aware of Ashton’s secret mission, had assigned his information the highest level of confidentiality to prevent any leaks. Ordinary staff members couldn’t access it.
But how could Effie know this? It was her first encounter with someone’s information labeled as unknown. Instead of feeling cautious, Effie became excited.
This guy’s submitted information was probably fabricated. He might even be a fugitive! No wonder he acted so arrogantly—he was just a lowlife!
