Chapter 519
Chapter 519:
Realization dawned on Jacoby; his confidence wavered and then vanished as panic took hold.
His previous threats, meant merely as bluffs to unsettle Ashton, suddenly loomed as a real and deadly outcome. Now, the thought of them dying together truly frightened him.
“Ashton, please, don’t scare me like that! I don’t want to die!” Ashton scoffed, “I thought you might be in on this, drawing me into a trap. It seems you and your so-called brother aren’t as close as you claim.”
At this point, Jacoby was too concerned with surviving to pay attention to Ashton’s taunts. His life was on the line, and he had no intention of dying today.
“Ashton, please, cut it out and help find a solution! I really don’t want to die!” Jacoby pleaded.
After a moment’s thought, Ashton instructed, “Lean down and check by my foot. See if there’s a wire connected to the accelerator? If you find one, the moment I lift my foot, the car will explode.”
Without delay, Jacoby crouched to inspect Ashton’s foot and sat back up, his face etched with despair.
“Damn, you’re right! There’s a red wire hooked to the accelerator!” Jacoby exclaimed, panic in his voice.
Ashton’s expression darkened. “Well, that complicates things a bit. This wire is part of a detonator setup, and it’s tied to the car’s speed. If I reduce speed too much, we’re going to blow up.”
Jacoby, nearly in tears, responded, “Complicates things a bit? My life is quite literally hanging by your foot!”
Ashton smiled and said, “Why are you so tense? It means there’s a way to fix it.”

Filled with terror yet clinging to hope, Jacoby urgently asked,
“What can we do, then?”
“Jump out of the car,” Ashton replied calmly.
The boxing club was located near the outskirts of the city. To force Jacoby to reveal some information about the Dark Night Organization, Ashton had driven and navigated the winding roads leading to the outskirts.
Except for Ashton’s car, the entire road was deserted.
Therefore, Ashton maintained a speed of 37 mph. It was not too fast, but not slow either.
At first, Ashton’s focus was entirely on Jacoby, so he did not notice at what speed the bomb had been activated. This uncertainty meant he couldn’t determine the speed threshold for detonation. Each second that ticked by heightened his anxiety, but there was no way he would slow down now. So, their only chance to escape was to jump out of the car.
“I’ll speed up to 60 mph later,” Ashton said, his eyes locked on the road ahead, calculating every move. “It will take some time for the car to slow down, so we’ll have a small window to jump.
This is our only way to survive.”
His grip on the steering wheel tightened.
