Chapter 604
Chapter 604:
Ashton called Abrial’s number several times. However, her phone continued to ring with no response.
Initially, Ashton thought that Abrial had been called away by some urgent matter. But now, a sense of uneasiness began to creep into his heart.
Ashton continued his search, moving quickly through every possible place Abrial could have gone within the resort. However, he found nothing.
In desperation, Ashton returned to the restaurant where the staff gathered. He noticed one of them kept smiling at him. He approached her and asked, “Excuse me, have you seen the woman who was with me earlier?”
Still smiling, the waitress replied, “I’m sorry, sir. I didn’t see your companion. It’s the perfect time for a relaxing afternoon tea. Would you like to try our resort’s special best-selling dessert—the goat milk cake?”
“No, thank you. I still need to find her,” he replied, turning around and heading toward the exit.
However, it seemed the waitress was unwilling to give up. She said behind him, “Sir, don’t worry. Perhaps your companion is busy right now. Why not eat something first? Maybe she’ll return by the time you’re done.”
Ashton paused and glanced back at her, sensing a strange persistence in her tone.
He felt uneasy. A guest was missing in their resort, but the waitress showed no concern at all. She even had the leisure to promote their desserts.
Could it be that she had something to do with Abrial’s disappearance?
Ashton noted something off about the waitress, though he lacked solid proof. He decided to probe her subtly.
He slumped into a nearby chair with a weary sigh, rubbing his temples. “Perhaps she had a sudden crisis at work and had to dash off. I guess I’ll hang back and wait for her. By the way, what’s the verdict on that goat milk cake you mentioned? I generally steer clear of lamb due to the pungent smell. Goat milk doesn’t carry that same aroma, does it?”

The waitress’s smile brightened significantly, lighting up her features as she eagerly nodded at Ashton’s inquiry about the resort’s specialty.
“Our goat milk cake is renowned for its velvety texture and robust, creamy flavor. It’s a favorite among our customers who can’t stop raving about it. I highly recommend you give it a try; it’s truly unforgettable!” she suggested with palpable excitement.
Ashton pondered momentarily, then nodded decisively. “Alright, I’ll have a slice. Also, about the evening entertainment — are there fireworks at eight? Since we’ve booked the whole resort, that’s included without extra fees, right? And the pond behind the hill — is it open for fishing? Are there any fees for the fish we catch? I haven’t fished in years and thought it might be fun to relax by the water later.”
The waitress seemed momentarily unsettled by Ashton’s inquiries, a flicker of panic crossing her features.
“I apologize, sir,” she stammered, her voice tinged with unease. “I’m new here and still getting to grips with the resort’s offerings. For detailed information, perhaps our manager could assist you? I’ll fetch your cake now.” With a swift turn, she darted off, her retreat almost akin to an escape.
