Chapter 622
Chapter 622:
With a sigh, Rayden admitted, “The evidence points to Ashton. Any further delays and Levi will retaliate against us. That could spell trouble for me as well. It’s unfortunate, but we must proceed this way. Please, stop interfering and leave. I have much to attend to.”
Shocked by her father’s uncharacteristic stance, Alisha felt a deep sense of disappointment but couldn’t walk away from the fight.
She left Rayden’s office quickly and made her way to the jail holding Ashton.
Flashing her badge, she gained entry to the prison and soon found herself face to face with Ashton once more.
At that moment, Ashton appeared unlike his usual self, who was normally filled with confidence and vigor. He was slumped in a corner of the cell, his arms tightly wrapped around his knees. Alisha, upon seeing him in such a state, felt a sharp twinge of sorrow. She hurriedly called out, “Ashton, it’s Alisha. Can you hear me? I’ve already found some clues about this case. Trust me. I will help you clear your name.”
Ashton seemed to stare into space for a brief second before turning his head toward her voice.
His eyes, dull and weary, met hers, and he managed a weak, sorrowful smile. Shaking his head, he responded, “Alisha? Thank you for your kindness, but sadly, I’ve crossed the wrong people. It’s best to let it go now. I don’t have the strength to fight any longer. I’m just preparing myself to confess and accept my fate. Please, don’t spend your efforts on me.”
Alisha didn’t expect Ashton to say such a thing.
However, seeing Ashton so utterly broken, she found it impossible to reprimand him. Clenching her teeth, she said, “I haven’t given up on you, so why are you giving up on yourself? Just wait here. I’ll find a way to free you.”
With those words, Alisha turned and stormed out of the cell.

As the sound of her footsteps faded, Ashton, who had been hunched over in defeat, straightened up and resumed his normal demeanor.
Yet, his eyes reflected a mix of emotions as he murmured to himself, “How can this girl be so determined? This can’t go on. If she ends up in danger because of me, I’ll never forgive myself.”
Rising to his feet and stretching, Ashton then said to a prison guard who was standing nearby, “Go tell Rayden that the plan has changed.”
Alisha stormed out of the prison with conflicting emotions. Anger flared in her eyes, and her expression was gloomy.
At this moment, no one was willing to help her. She had tried talking to her father, but he only advised her to stop meddling in this case. And now, even Ashton seemed to have given up on himself.
However, Alisha’s stubborn nature flared. She refused to accept that things would end like this. For her, Ashton’s reputation shouldn’t be tarnished, and the truth must be exposed. So, she swore to find evidence to clear his name.
But unfortunately, the case was very unfavorable for Ashton right now. As the person involved, Ashton remained tight-lipped. His refusal to speak only made her investigation more challenging.
